Best Way to Ship a 55 Inch TV from Melbourne to NSW?

Hi there,
I need to send a Sasmsung KS8000 55inch TV to NSW from Melbourne. What is the best (cheapest and reliable) method to send/ship this TV interstate? Unfortunately, other than Australia Post, I am not knowledgeable of other methods. Unfortunately, we also do not have the box that came with the TV as well.

Appreciate your help!

risky without the original box and padding. Any chance you can drive it yourself?

  • Would it not be easier to just sell this one on gumtree and buy another?

Have you got a quote from a moving company on a box? Called the usual suspects eg single, DHL, couriers, please etc.

Personally, I'd just drive it there.

Oof. They come packed in boxes that have more styrofoam than TV for a reason…. I would drive it myself, tbh.

  • I know, it's really quite annoying that we got rid of the box. I was thinking like a courier service like Toll who could organise a pickup/packaging of sorts?

    It's a bit of a complicated story:

I live in Melbourne, however, I bought a refurbished KS8000 off Audiolandonline on eBay who are located in NSW. A defect developed within one year of purchase and I am now claiming the 12-month warranty. Audioland have however ceased trading a couple of months ago (before I attempted to claim my warranty) and have directed me to a repair agency called Bee Chang also located in NSW.

That is why I am sending the TV to NSW. I suppose it is better than paying $2-3k+ to replace the panel? (the issue will most likely result in a panel swap, Bee Chang will repair or replace under warranty. $2-3k is quoted from a local repair agency in Melbourne)

According to ACCC, the seller is liable to organise and pay for shipping charges for big items, or items not easily removed. However, since Audiolandonline have stopped trading, I cannot reach them as they are no longer contactable.

    • Oh hm. Who's paying for the repairs? If Audioland is no longer contactable are they going to be paying?

      • @HighAndDry I think Audioland have organised something with Bee Chang for any of their customers in the past year trying to claim a warranty. Bee Chang will be covering the costs I assume. They have told me there'll be no costs on my part for the repairs, I do have to pay for any freight costs, though.

@stewartedin Thanks for that, I'll have a look at your link when I'm off work.

Ah okay. Maybe call up Bee Chang and see what they recommend - if they deal with repairs basically as their entire business, they should have experience with how to transport stuff.

You can purchase heavy duty TV boxes from the likes of Kennards and King self storage to give you an idea here' a link to the Boxman:

      Hmm tricky.

I'd be insisting they arrange a courier. Maybe check with the ACCC what happens when a business ceases training. Surely you'd be better off going through the manufacturer rather than spending hundreds shipping this thing to NSW. Either that or ask for a repairer in Melbourne.

    • I was thinking like a courier service like Toll

I just shipped a 49" TV using Toll.

Driver turned up, insisted I fill out a consignment note even though one was attached already so I copied the details from one to the other in front of him. Tracked the TV to Sydney. Nothing else happened. Called Toll, they sent me an automated message for 7 days saying they're looking for it. Then they sent message saying investigation over and no package found.

Luckily I wasn't responsible for shipping.

  • Can you post through other means? I know my parents needed to ship a laptop to me and they sent it through the bus (Stateliner) not sure if you can send stuff through Greyhound or train? (And if its expensive).

  • Advertise on Airtasker, there's usually always someone doing a Mel - Syd run that could pick up and drop off for you.

  • It might be worthwhile getting a quote from Pack & Send.

I've used them a couple of times to ship valve amps interstate with absolutely no problems.

  • Temando could help to get a good courier price+insurance, but you're still left with the problem of safe packaging with Styrofoam.

  • Thanks for all your input everyone. Gathering multiple responses from different sites, at this point I'm pretty resigned to just sticking with the TV and buying a new one eventually. The defect is relatively minor as it is a very thin black line (literally around a couple of mm) that appears top to bottom in the middle of the screen and I suppose I can live with it until I get around to buying a new one.

I did call Samsung as well initially and they pointed me towards local repair agencies, who gave me an estimate of $3-4k+ for a panel swap. Of course there is the possibility that it may not require a panel swap, but it's a bloody $200 callout fee just to determine what's wrong with it. I may contact Samsung again and inquire about any other possible options.

Bee Chang have told me that they would be able to repair the defect, or replace it under warranty. I even mentioned, if the issue does in-fact require a panel swap, would you be able to do this free of charge? They said yes. Although, I am skeptical that this process would go smoothly, I do have the suspicion they would slap on some excess fees at the end of it all. I'd prefer to hold on to the TV if that is the case.

Usually I'm not a fan of purchasing refurb items as well, but when Audiolandonline offered 12-month warranties and the fact that the seller is liable for shipping fees or organisation of removal according to ACCC – I thought, what have I got to lose? It was also at the point where the KS8000 (a really good TV from reviews from multiple sources) was not being manufactured anymore and no one was selling it anymore new.

Then you have Audiolandonline (who have been a business since 2004, I might add) suddenly close business and cease trading just this year when I happen to buy a TV from them. Got to lose some right?
