What Can I Do!? Dead Nikon D90 Battery Bought in Launceston

the Saturday before the Australian day, we took the flight to Tasmania for a holiday. just before boarding the plane, i realized i left the battery at home@#%$@#%@#%@#. i brought a D90 body and two good lenses, many filters and also a tripod with me, but not the battery! so the first thing we did after landing in launceston and picking up the rent car was drive down to the city centre. the camera house and "battery world" did not have the battery in stock, let alone the charger. i finally found them in a Kodak shop. despite the ridiculous prices, i was still desperate to get one battery(there was only one battery left for my D90). i asked the lady in the shop to charge the battery for 20 mins while we were away for a quick lunch. when we returned and tried this battery in my camera, it showed the battery was still totally flat. thinking of my photography gear, i bit the bullet and still bought the only battery and a universal charger.

long story short. the battery of $99 is dead, never worked. when we got back home in Sydney, i used my own charger to charge the battery, still no good. totally dead!

i dont know what i can do. the shop is in launceston. is it possible for me to return the battery and get refund(i still keep the receipt)? how about the postage? or should i contact the distributor which as mentioned by that lady is located in somewhere here in Sydney. or any third party governmental/non governmental organisation who may look after me on this matter? i hate the hassles, and it is so hot in Sydney these week!

i know the easiest way is just "let it go".

I think the first thing you should do is call the store in TAS, explain the situation, and see what they suggest.

  • why are you even thinking about "any third party governmental/non governmental organisation" at this stage?

  • Simply post it back, they post you a replacement.

It's just a warranty claim, so where you purchased makes very little difference… :-)

  • I'm with all of the above. You may find the Tassie shop suggests your local manufacturer's service agent to save you some postage & time; certainly give them the benefit of the doubt first & foremost! ;)
