Asking for Recent Sale Price?

Hi Ozbargain

I was recently looking at a product in at Myer. They recently had this product on sale for $73.50 but in the last 2 days, the price is back up to $105.

Has anyone got experience or advice in haggling at retail chains? Is it fair to ask if they can offer me the product at the sale price as I am going in-store tomorrow, what are my chances they’ll agree?

The product in question is Viktor & Rolf: Spicebomb Extreme.

Any advice is much appreciated!

No harm in asking but I doubt they will allow it.

Yeah, it would defeat the entire purpose of a limited time offer.

Myer has a price match policy. Have you looked at the policy and found a better price elsewhere?

All the best with your purchase!

  • Viktor & Rolf is a great choice. As someone else suggested do a quick google search and see if any other retailers have it at a cheaper price and then ask Myer to price match.

I went to myer earlier this year to buy a wok but missed the sale by a few days. The guy at the counter said he will ask the manager if I can have it at the sale price and in the end got it for a few bucks more than the sale price was

  • Try and let us know

  • How much do you want the product? Are you prepared to pay $105?
    You can either:
    a. Ask and walk away if they don't drop or buy it if they do (Myer staff have some flexibility in some products IME)
    b. Wait for it to drop again
    c. Buy it now full price.

  • Do you haggle at supermarkets as well?

I don't haggle at Supermarkets but Myers is open to discussions on price. IF they don't give it to you at the price they are usually polite in their refusals.

Try asking and you might be in luck. I missed out on a 40% off children's clothing sale in early June. Went a couple of days after the sale ended, asked at counter if it's still on. They told me it was only a limited offer but after checking with the manager they were able to still apply the discount for me.

    Depends on the manager

    Update

Even though the advertised price online had gone back to retail and there was no signs of the sale price in-store, the item still scanned at $73.50

    Thanks for the advice guys!
