American Express Explorer Card and use of SPG points

Hi all, hoping this is the best forum in which to post my qn which relates to usage of Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) points via my Amex Explorer membership rewards points.
So as i understand it i can basically convert my points balance of 120k into approx 60k SPG which i can then use on accommodation at a variety of places.
I'm looking at taking a holiday at a resort in Thailand. Some of these show as having "free nights" available and others don't.
I wondered if anyone could give me an idea of if it is possible to book a whole stay (say a week) using points? have always heard that SPG points is one of the better ways to spend these.

  • It’s usually stay for 5 nights, get the 5th night free.

Must be same booking and consecutive nights at same hotel.

Finishes 31 July, but essentially if you're prepared to buy some additional SPG points you could transfer your Amex points > SPG > Marriott, and could book one of these travel reward packages https://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/morepack.mi

If you get yourself up to a Category 6 package for 280,000 points, you can grab a week at a Marriott in Hua Hin, Pattaya or Phuket, along with a return Business class flight!! https://www.marriott.com/rewards/pointsGridPopUpPropertyList…

    • What is the transfer rate from SPG to Marriott?

Wow this does look like a great deal, however once you are married all business class fares become twice as hard to obtain haha. My current 150k Amex points can only get me 225k Marriott so might have a while to go yet before I can entertain that idea.

Just buy the remainder from spg, currently they have a 35% off.
