I don't want this to be instantly negg'd, but I would like to point out the following to any prospective buyers before they make a trip down to their local store:

I checked out pretty much all of the items in this catalogue as I'm moving out and need a lot of things, and I found that the homemaker brand is generally pretty poor quality stuff. The 'white' dinner sets were more an sand/white due to a thin glaze layer showing the ceramic underneath, with lots of impurities (black/off colour specs/sand/contaminants) in the porcelain, and the glaze on numerous sets I looked at (boxes, not display ones) showing signs of runs, inconsistent thickness (mainly very thin), and general 'roughness'.

The homemaker appliances are very cheap, but also very lightweight and flimsy. I wouldn't buy any of them to use on a basis of more than once a day or for extended periods.

Nonetheless, I did purchase several items as they're dirt cheap, and they will serve their purpose till I have the time sit down and do some research on higher-quality goods that I would buy to keep long-term. I did return a cutlery set I bought as when I took it out of the packaging to see the build quality, there were sharp & rouch edges on nearly all of the spoons and forks. I wouldn't use these for fear of cutting my mouth open.

For someone looking to get a bunch of cheap stuff to start out on, it's good, but don't look to buy homemaker stuff to replace crappy things you already have.

It's okay. I work at K-mart, and the number of returned items we get usually all are from the humble "Homemaker" brand. During the past week we must've had at least 5 Homemaker Fans returned due to faulty problems or missing pieces. I personally don't really buy from K-mart that often myself (unless they're brand name items from the sound/vision section of the store. However, if you're just starting out and need to get lots of cheap houseware then it's a good place to start off. Otherwise I just go with the slogan "You get what you pay for".

  • The towels are pretty thin and smaller that their other towels at 60 x 120cm. Funny thing is that Kmart could have gotten the manufacturer to make a really good, thick full sized towel from the cotton/material of two towels for $6 and would be a great towel and price.
