Hello Ozbargainer - Need any advice, talk to a expert now

How do they know I'm from OZB?

Yes too many and that's why I bought one to work them off.

      • Or referrer from HN site.

    Rower: very good
    S4 computer/monitor: hopelessly outdated
    Price: awesome

Product has not evolved for 15 years from a technology point of view but it is a solid rower.

    • … So I should buy one?

    • You seem to know a bit about rowers - any others better/comparable in this price range?

      • +1

At that price go for it.

Next comparable one is concept 2 but more expensive and very different system.

        I prefer waterower.

        • Thanks, got one.

        • Out of those two I've never seen Water rower in a gym.

      • +1

as @mrbillions said, not at this price. Depends on what you are used to as well and what you are hoping to get out of it. Concept2 are the standard for club/competition but more expensive. I've only ever used C2 so cant comment on the waterower.

        • No. What I mean it is definately a BUY rating.

        • @mrbillions: I agree with you but my poorly worded response sounded ambiguous. I should have said "there are no better/comparable rowers at this price"

      • Yuck. Wouldn't touch a water rower. Get a second hand concept 2.

    • You can get third party software that makes use of it.

      • Yes there is plenty around and hence they introduced a laptop stand but really they should just include an android monitor inatead of the old S4.

I tried to work it on my laptop but never could get it to work properly due to some cable issues. But again just for the device alone it is worth a buy. Just has so much more potential with better technology.

        • Yes I tried the software that shows various courses and it was about $150 to buy, but it didn't keep stroke with me so it didn't feel at all realistic. Some of the more basic stuff was ok.

As you say the actual machine is very good (the motivation to use it is another matter).

        • @wfdTamar: >the motivation to use it is another matter

Wait, can't you just eat what you like as long as you exercise it off? That's what duh gummints told me as well as not eating breakfast is a catastrophic disaster even though it isn't.

    Every POTUS should have one.

    • +2

Either that or some handsome security protection.

      • Or an intern with a blue dress.

        • You don't want to know what happens to interns when Kevo is hanging around.

  • I am planning to get a rower and a treadmill in the garage. Any recommendations for the treadmill?

    • Check the next kerbside collection day.

  • Great price.

  • WaterRower

I tried this in the Yarra last month. Doesn't float, so returned it…

  • This is the rowing machine used by Frank Underwood in house of cards.

    http://www.rowingmachineking.com/house-of-cards-rowing-machi…

    • aka Kevin Spacey.. probably not as great as it used to be

  • Jeez, a friend of mine paid $1700 for a WaterRower ten years ago. She never used it of course.

  • Thanks, got one. Should offset dinner: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/391050

  • I tried one maybe a dozen times long ago and what I remember is finding it extremely difficult to stay in the same heart rate zone I used for running, cycling, stationary cycling. Was that entirely due to my sh*thouse technique?

    • +1

Could be. People who haven't been shown how to row often use their arms as the main muscle group. The first muscle group to use is your legs - they are the strongest, they get you moving. The rest of the muscles are a bit of a case of "use them because they're there and they'll help". You should look up rowing technique, because I'm not going to claim to be a professor.

Also, push down hard, go up slow. Going up is your rest break.

If you're on the Concept 2, you may have also set the resistance wrong. If you were on a Waterrower.. well, the resistance is a crock of sh-t.

  • Don't buy a waterrower. The resistance is a crock of sh-t. Don't believe the marketing about it being some amazing natural variable system based on the effort you put in. It has scientific basis (water.. duh) but it's still a piece of crap to actually use.

Buy a second hand Concept 2. Not only is it vastly superior, it's cheaper (second hand) than this and will hold it's resale value if you never use it and need to sell it again.

    • I agree that the Concept 2 is the better rower, but used ones aren’t cheaper, not is SE Queensland anyway. The ones even close to this price are ex-gym/studio rowers that have had very hard lives. And you’re right - they do hold their value very well…which makes the used market rather expensive.

      • Subjective, but I've always preferred the WaterRower over the Concept2

    • Concept2 should be noiser than this one so for someone waterrower is better for home use.

  • very good proce, this used to cost 1200

  • I have the exact one at home. Of course despite good intentions, I don't use it enough, so people should always factor this when buying home gym equipment

But it's a very good rower and I prefer it over concept 2

The computer is very outdated but it doesn't matter to me at all. It tells me distance, time and stroke rate. I have HR monitor on my watch. it's easy to begin with but hard to sustain, it's quieter than concept 2 and more soothing. You can stand it up but should secure it if you have children/toddlers

i got mine 3 years ago for $500 more than this price, can't stress how good of a deal this is

  • looks like add to cart stopped working and no qty left

let's wait for the refunds for the professionals…

    • Bugger. Was just about to buy

  • Still no shipping notification on this!

    • I called hardly normal and they said these are shipping direct from the supplier so may take a little longer.

  • I have received mine today so all legit.
Came from water rower Australia they rang late last week to confirm if i wanted a laptop stand or phone stand. That was the reason for delay

  • same, happy!

  • bTW this was a massive pricing error. Good on everyone who got it and WR honoring it.

    • It wasn't. Just a good sale

  • fark. wanted this. damn it.
