no more plastic bags but free landfill. Good job Coles!

  • +20

    Why collectables?
Much prefer a usable sample size of the items

    • +1

      Kiddie PESTERPOWER .. FTW!

    • +7

So, I'm not the only one who was kinda hoping that these were shrunk-down real products and not toys.

  • +5

    Cute!

    • -7

Not sure why my comment below was marked as "Off Topic". All I asked was if there were "Any bargains?".

Don't forget you still have to spend $30.00 on groceries to get one of these $0.05 plastic miniatures, so you couldn't get much more on topic than that.

  • -2

    Any bargains?

    • Just landfill. But thanks for the information OP.

    • +1

Return the miniature item and say my item shrunk and want a refund. My receipt also disappeared

  • +26

lmao no plastic bag but plastic Miniature

    • +1

      But what's with the neg?

  • +17

That's a bit biased, what about household brands like Durex, Libra etc. Kids need to learn.

  • +1

Here we go again with the ebay scalping…

  • +33

The irony of removing useful plastic one week, and replacing it with completely useless plastic the next. The tone deafness is startling.

  • +3

When we got our pallet in I thought they would actually have the contents as well which would have been cool. But nah, useless minis.

  • +2

Anyone know what scale they are? Might go well with my 1/6 figures.

    • From memory the ones I opened were at most 5 CM

      • +1

Pretty shit size to be honest. They should have made them at least double the size, a definite choking hazard for smaller children in their current size.

  • +1

Who exactly are they targeting with this?

    • +4

As has been noted above, it's definitely targeted at kids and their pester power. This was done in NZ and was HUGELY successful, these little plastic trinkets went up on TradeMe (Gumtree equiv) for $5-10 each after the promo was over. Kids at school adored them, my daughter went crazy over them at the time.

    • +4

It's targeting the people who buys shopkins and I assume that there is a lot of them.

    • eBay sellers

  • +9

    What a pointless promotion.

  • +3

Very pointless and a waste of money producing them. At least I got extra flybuys for bringing my own bags, which I've been doing for the past 10 years

  • +14

This is seriously wrong. The people in head office need to get the heads out of their colons. I don't want the rubbish packaging I already get with the original products, I sure don't want plastic minatures that do squat.

    • +3

      What about bench press?

      • +1

I'd like to high kick whoever came up with this idea.

  • +7

Wow. It's all made of plastic. Can they really not see this is going to cause a massive backlash?

  • +27

I want a plastic bag miniature collectable to cherish the memories of the olden days

  • +8

You need to spend $900 to collect all 30 in approx 40 days. Yeah right… Who shops $30 everyday?

    • +8

The people who forget to bring a bag?

    • Baby formula is around $25 a tin, pretty hard to spend less than $30 with a family to be honest.

  • +17

    Pringles are 1:1 scale.

  • Are the number 30. Coles Bananas in a plastic tub or carry bag? Or are they just loose generic non-branded Bananas?

  • They giving away sets too. Every week just scan your flybuys card.

    Are they in blind bags?

    • +1
They are in blind bags. Similar to the other kids collectables elsewhere (Lego Mini Figures, LOL toys etc).

can confirm as I work at Coles

      • will they give me one when I do my opal topups? lol

        • I'm not sure as my own store does not do opal top ups, but if the system were to be the same as the last Sports for School Vouchers… then yes/no if you did get one before lol

I just know for sure that if you buy cigarettes then you would not be eligible for the little shop toys (as per the same rules for the Sports Vouchers).

        • No, just did that and I didn't get one.

      • Blind bags = random = gambling.
        Lets complain to local MP.

    • Is that with the $30 spend, or another thing?

  • +3

Some of these miniature item choices are bizarre e.g. messy monkey biscuits, supercoat dog food and coles banana

    • +3

Please replace with a hot chook and Quilton. These are Coles staples, not Messy Monkey whatevers.

    • No one's getting a messy monkey looking at these yeeeeeeeeee

  • +9

    Use them as Monopoly tokens

  • -3

marketing gimmick..I dont need more trash in the house and I am already a hoarder..

    • +4

Then don't collect them. Problem solved.

      • As a hoarder you can't stop. Must fill the void…

  • +5

wow. look at all the whingers having a sook about toys that are obviously targeted at kids.
better write Coles an angry letter telling them how angry you are

    • -1

already done, dear boy. Glad to see you intend to fork out $900 to get your kid the set of advertising products. When you are throwing them in the bin remember what we said. The fact they are aimed at children is even more insidious.

      • +2

        1) i'm female
        2) i don't have kids
        3) try harder, dear
        4) toys aimed at children, who play with toys. much insidious! so conspiracy!

        • so you intend to fork out $900 for plastic rubbish for yourself?

        • +3

          @try2bhelpful: you still mad? :D

        • +1

@tdw: not mad enough to waste money on this rubbish :)

        • @try2bhelpful: but mad enough to tell everyone how mad they are over some toys. Riiiight

        • +7

@tdw: it is Ozbargain. Pointing out that stuff is bad value, as well as good value, is part of the contribution.

        • @try2bhelpful: ozbargainers aren't going to spend $30 just for a toy. You're barking up the wrong tree, mate

        • I want the timtams, nutella and OJ for my doll house - assuming they don't look terrible irl.
We don't have kids, we have dogs.

        • +1

@anastasiastarz: make sure they aren’t a chocking hazard for the dogs. They may well see them as a chew toy. Give the doggies a pat from me.

        • @tdw: we already buy stuff for future use, just to build up our points total, me included. The supermarkets run these promotions to get people to spend more, or they wouldn’t bother doing it. If someone is below the $30 they will buy extra stuff to get to that level. Include children pester power and I wonder how much people’s shopping will increase over the promotion. BTW - matette. Female, no kids,

      • +3

Nobody is paying for the toys, people spend money on groceries and get one free for every $30. If you happen to spend that amount you have a choice to not collect your free gift. Which ozbargainers would resist free gift?

        • +1

there are some free "gifts" not worth having, even if you are an ozbargainer. Ask anyone whose cat has brought them a present. :)

        • +4

@try2bhelpful: im looking forward to collect them honestly, i think they are quite cute. I need to spend at coles anyway for the 4 weeks flybuys bonus

        • +1

@soangry: will they still be cute in a years time or will they be landfill? Then multiply that across thousands of homes. That is my main issue, particularly when colesworth are trying to wean people off plastic bags. Their timing is really bad. Personally, I would love to see a promotion based around donating money to charities than dust catchers. I know it is your money, and you can spend it how you like, but I’m just trying to look at the bigger picture here.

  • Do you still get these if you order on Coles Online store?

Edit: i see in the T&Cs you do.

  • +2

No miniature condoms? Asking for a friend :/

    • +1

your "friend"….he wouldn't be an ant, by any chance?

      • Ummm, yeah sure…an ant.

        • Wink wink nudge nudge say no more

  • +4

This is the first time one of these promotions has genuinely excited me. And even though I shop exclusively at Woolworths (mainly just because of proximity), I'm going to shop at Coles purely for these.

I realise that for most people these are just junk, but as someone who collects toys (which I began after I took up sculpting as a hobby, just so you have a prettier mental image of me) and has bought - or has wanted to buy - similar miniature items in the past, these kind of things are normally not cheap. Getting them free with my shopping is a real nice treat for me.

    • -2

These aren't really free though, it's just a marketing trick. They would cost next to nothing to make and groceries are overpriced in Australia.

That's why I asked above if there were any bargains, because if you are just buying random stuff in order to get these then there is no bargain, this is just an announcement.

      • +6

You sound like a malfunctioning robot.

      • +3

Eh. It's obviously just a marketing trick, but this really is getting something for nothing for most people who go to the shops regularly. Might not be your cup of tea, but these little things do have enough novelty that people like garworsby benefit from this deal being posted.

    • if they rock your boat that much then go for it. I'm a bit of a craft person myself, knitting, tapestry, etc. I even restored a floor weaving loom (which I have yet to string up - but it looks great). When you have the collection I would be interested in a photograph to show how you are displaying them.

However, I think you are going to be the small minority that actually does anything with them and, in 6 months time, the rest will hang around until someone throws them out.

There are some really beautiful doll house items out there and, I'm sure, you could make some terrific stuff yourself. Have fun with your hobby.

  • +1

You got to be joking, $4.00 for a Little Shop Collector's Case? No thanks.

  • +6

    .22. Maggie Chicken Noodles

Lame. Should be a cult classic like Indomie Mi Goreng.

  • Wheres the coke bottle or can? Hopefully they have a trading day like some woolies stores do at the end of the promo. Bit rich to have to spend $5 on ebay. If you want a particular item.

    • +2

They're having a Swap Day. It says you can swap directly with Coles, which I like, but for them to only have two full sets seems troubling. But I guess with people continually swapping in and out different things, where they would always have 60 items, maybe it'll work out OK.

I've done two shops so far and I have 8 items and luckily no duplicates, but I'm guessing soon I'll start hitting the duplicate territory.

And here's the Swap Day details, from here: https://www.coles.com.au/littleshop/info/campaignterms

2.10 A Swap Day is scheduled on Saturday August 11th (list of participating stores may be found on coles.com.au/littleshop) . The Swap Day is to provide a forum for customers to trade their Collectables, in order to help customers collect all 30 unique Collectables. Attendees and participants in a Swap Day shall be solely responsible for their actions in relation to the Swap Day.

2.11 At each Swap Day participating store, Coles and/or its contractors will also allow customers to swap Collectables directly with them. Coles and/or its contractors will have two full sets (30 Collectables per set, 60 Collectables total) available to swap directly with customers. Coles and/or its contractors will swap with customers on a one Collectable for one Collectable basis. The Collectable presented by the customer to Coles for swapping must be in a good, clean condition. There will be no limits to the amount of swaps customers can perform with Coles (or its contractors) on the Swap Day.

    I rarely shop at coles

if anyone gets a Spare of these, could i have them:

    Tim Tams
    Vicks VapoRub
    Vegemite
    WeetBix

    it would be much appreciated

    • +1

Wow $132 and only 5 minatures included!

      • +1

        Now up to $202.50. Stupidity.

My local Coles was giving these out like lollies. "Here have a handful". I got Sunbites, Dettol soap, and Nescafe coffee. Who wants them?

        • Where is your local Coles? I’d be keen on the last two for my daughters collection.

        • Yes please, if you are giving them away. I am collecting these miniature items but I find it so hard to spend over $30 on my own. Thank you :)

  • What's the go with trading these on Ebay, are they worth more opened or unopened, are some rarer?

    • Look at the sold items, not just the unsold ones. I’d suggest packaging with a folder
