Dyson DC65

I've found myself without a working vacuum cleaner and was hoping to get the Dyson DC65.

Now with the existing ebay plus membership and "proxy" code Appliance Central will sell it at around $540.

I'd like to know if you folks think this is the best I'm likely to get it at?

It appears that a few months ago, appliance central was selling it for less than it's list price now, but with the discount, it still seems quite low.

Also, I've never heard of this mob before and had a look online on how they are and some of the reviews are pretty nasty. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Cheers and thanks.

  • Before deciding if that's a good price vacuum cleaner and what seller, first you need a vacuum that is right for you.

Do you have any allergies? Asthma or hay fever? How much carpet do you have? Do you rent or own? How old is the carpet? What kind of clean do you want?

How easy is it to get parts for a certain vacuum if breaks? (Not easy for a Dyson etc) How long do you want the vacuum cleaner to last?

    • I've been using my DC14 for 9 years until it died. I'm actually waiting on a replacement motor I've ordered in UK, only because changing the brushes didn't work - look's like the windings are shot. I've been toying with the idea of an upgrade and the death of the existing vacuum provided the impetus for me to look into it.

Anyway, we've been pretty happy with how the thing did it's cleaning and we love not having to use bags.

      • Fair enough, glad you had a good innings with your Dyson. With proper maintenance you should get that out of a good machine.

If you do have allergies in the family or lots of carpet May be worth investing in a vacuum cleaner with a power head.

        • Thanks for that. The place I moved into now only has carpets in the bedrooms, so actually less carpet than my last place. That being said, I'd just like to clarify, does a power head mean something with a powered brush bar on it?

          @tebbybabes:

          Sorry for the slow reply.

Yes, a powered head means the head of the vacuum has a motor in it.

Usually the spinning brush in a vacuum head is driven by a turbine (suction) and slows down when the spinning brush comes in contact with the carpet.

Where as the powered head is driven by a motor as sound at a much faster rate and does not slow down when it comes in contact with the carpet.

You can then get power heads that have an off beater in them. Like your Kirby, vorwerk, sauber etc. This powered head will best the carpet to give a deep clean
