AmEx Travel: Destination Not Selectable from Website

Hi Everyone! Just a quick question

I need to book a fare to a destination not listed on the Amex travel website (Lahore, Pakistan to be specific). However, several of the airlines selectable from the Amex Travel website (Emirates, Etihad, Thai Airways) fly there. I intend to use my travel credit…

Is it possible to book destinations over the phone with them not normally available through the site?

TIA

  • If you have a platinum charge card you can call the Platinum Travel service and use your travel credit over the phone with them for any travel booking.

Otherwise you’re stuck with only what the AMEX travel portal offers you I believe.

    • I have a platinum edge… Will give them a call first thing in the morning

      • Platinum edge ($200) is different to the platinum charge ($1200).

I think that is the correct annual fees anyway

  • I’ve asked them this before and you’re stuck with the destinations they provide.

I suggest booking a flight to Dubai or similar, staying the night and then going onto your final destination.

    • Interestingly, flying MEL-DXB-LHE as a single reservation is much cheaper than separating the two, not to mention the hassle with checking luggage in and out…

I have the $200 EY statement credit as well, that might be more useful here it seems…

Breakthrough: They were able to book it for me!

They asked me if I could provide the flight numbers/times manually, and once I did, they strung up a booking for the exact same price as what Thai Airways wanted directly, with no processing fees or forex fees, and it used the $200 travel credit as well with no dramas.

    Easy done.

    • Great to know!
