Great price but it still surprises me the game has held onto its value for so long.

    • Yeah I must be on of the few that still don't own it. I'm not touching it until it goes below $20 (and have no issue if it never does).

That's some very strict budgeting… Waiting out on one of the greatest games ever made over $4.99. Each to their own though, I'm guessing you aren't much of a gamer if you've waited this long for GTA anyway.

        • +5

I agree, games like GTA, Zelda, Mario and GoW to name a few you buy and experience straight away. Everything else though, can wait until $5 to $19.

        • -4

I have a PS4, Switch and a PC. I just don't think GTA 5 is anywhere near "One of the greatest games ever made".

        • Fair enough, as I said, each to their own. My top 3 games would probably be The last of us, Red dead redemption and GTA V :)

          P.s I didn't neg you.

    • +2

Why? Because it still sells, and rockstar don't pump out a new GTA every year would certainly help.

So when people are picking themselves up a PS4 or Xbox one for the first time I'd say a large percentage of them go "oh I want GTA" and grab it too, even though it's like 3 or 4 years old, Not many of them will be like "oh I want the COD from 3 years ago" hence why yearly titles are worth SFA 9+ months after release.

  • Finally got one at a good price.

    JB Hi-Fi $79

    What the f@#*!?

  • Triggered!

Just want to say that a lot of the online DLC is hidden behind layers of paywalls.
For example to access the latest DLC (Doomsday Missions), you need to buy a Facility which costs a shitton of money. But to start a mission and access the facility features, you need to be a CEO or Bikers leader which you need to spend more money on buying either a CEO office or Biker hideout.
This is the same for the Gun Running DLC.
Multiple DLC's require you to buy into previous DLCs

Honestly, just play the offline game and forget about online. Gta V in its own right is a great game, especially if you're a fan of the series.

The online is a tool created for the sole purpose of milking people for as much money as possible, whereas the offline is just an excellent game.

      • Agreed. Play online if you like to mess around with friends but don't care too much about progression or being "competitive" with others. Outside of that, online is a huge waste of time if you are playing with the intent to experience what they advertise as "free dlc".

    • Are the DLC for multiplayer only?

Does it improve game much or any good?

Yeah not a fan of rockstar milking more In App Purchases like how the mobile games are doing.

      • DLC is multiplayer only.
There is 5x as many new cars, aircraft, weaponised armored vehicles, weapons and extra missions which happen few months before the story of GTA 5.

If you're just playing single player, I'd honestly just use mods/cheats to give yourself unlimited money (after beating it) because unlike multiplayer, if you buy a car or tank (I think it was $2,000,000) and it blows up, you have to pay full price again to drive it again. In multiplayer, you can just buy it once and then respawn it again infinite amount of times. If your car blows up, you can just pay the tiny insurance fee ($15k~) to respawn it.

I would just play single player first, because then at least you don't know what you're missing.

        • Or Alternatively you can just be smart/exploit the in game stock market (single player). A new 2 million tank is chump change. Then you dont have to worry about cheating/disabling achievements.

        • @DKPARTY:

You only get to play that rigged stock exchange a fixed amount of times, then after that you're stuck with whatever you have.

I don't think 2m is chump change either. You finish with like 15-30m and that's it. Your only option is just gamble on the RNG stock market and waste time Save scumming and waiting hours for any appreciable change, like maybe 5%.

You can't just drive the tank out to middle of nowhere, blowing up cops and cars, and then dump it like you can in Online. You have to take a complicated path back to whatever glitched garage you have and hope the game saves it. This makes it untenable to just throw $2m around like it's nothing.

This thread is still relevant because Rockstar don't update single player mode since it doesn't make them any money like Online does.

  • Such a fascinating test case this game, has held its value so well, despite having so many micro-transactions.

JB selling it for $79 is just a joke!

  • Soooo wish they brought this to the switch

    • -2

graphics on switch won't be enjoyable.

      • +1

        Switch Vs PS3?

        • Switch vs PS4/xbone.
GTA 5 is graphically intensive, I doubt switch can handle the highest quality.
          Best to expect Fortnite-like graphics.

Another issue is the game size is 65GB
128GB SD card is pretty pricey.

        • +1

          @wjb:
You are comparing it to the wrong consoles, switch just needs a PS3 port, that would look great in handheld and alright on the big screen.

  • Time to pull the trigger, been waiting waiting and waiting…

  • Thanks OP. Expires 12:00 AEST

    • comes up as 2PM on Amazon at the moment, maybe they've extended it.
