I have a fair amount of Virgin Frequent flyers on my account and I would like to redeem it for cash.
I have noticed that you can use these cards at any BP to use on fuel.
What’s stopping me putting $5 worth if petrol in my car, and asking the BP staff to withdraw the cash too and pay using my Virgin Velocity Frequent flyer card?
I think it will work.

No way, they owe you credit not cash, they goods the provide will have a lower cost to them then cash, obviously, or they wouldn’t be in business.

Why not just sell your Velocity points? Much better return.
Almost every Ozbargainer would strongly recommend not doing this, as there is far better value ways to use Velocity Points. We also go as far as disabling the “pay with points” options on our velocity accounts.
i have to set that up on my account i never use it so it's a pain having to stand there waiting to hit the cancel button
It won't work but do try it out and let us know if you're successful. It's like trying to withdraw flybuys dollars into cash …
