Virgin Car Insurance

I regretted that I took the bonus offer pay 12 months get 13 months http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/36311

I got several quotes, 2 of them didn't have extra 1 month bonus.
Chat online with the Reps - she said it expired last month. I told her I have it in front of me, she then said I will get 13 months.

I signed up online - before go to payment page - there was a message told me that I have to call the Customer Service. I did. The Reps was so nice. I told her about the offer and asked if I still get the offer if I pay on phone - she said yes. So I paid.

Few days later, received the policy, only cover for 12 months.
I called Customer Service, she did not know about the offer - she told me she only know pay 11 months get 12 months. She then checked and told me she will talk to her supervisor tomorrow.

Few days later, she called my mobile phone and left a message to call her back on number … hmmm … she asked herself … "what's the number?" … then hang up without leaving a phone number at all. She did not know the number and did not even call back to advise the number.

Anyway, I got the number from the policy. I called them, a man picked up and told me that the supervisor said that the offer in only for apply online not on phone. I asked why the 1st Reps told me differently. He repeated again that this offer is only online, doesn't matter what the other Reps said.

I told him I was unhappy about this because they gave me wrong information and now blame me. If they told me in advance that I won't get it, I surely will not pay them. I will use my other quotes and apply online again or use my offer on with Virgin Mobile, get $50 credit.
He then repeated again the supervisor said no offer.

I am feeling cheated by Virgin Money - they gave me wrong information, did not apologise or fix the problem.
So stupid me, I believed them I paid the full amount.

Their price maybe cheaper than others but they may not be trusted. Be warned.

I think there is 10 days cooling off period so cancel it if you're still in that time frame or call your CR card do a charge back if you paid by CC!

  • Must be the same virgin staff who years ago declined my credit card application and refused to tell me why, when I owned my house with no mortgage. Not like a bank was their tag line. (Worse LOL)

I used to deal with a company that was in the same office space as a Virgin business, listening to their staff in the lift was always amusing, young most with facial appendages, and very indiscreet confidential discussions - no life experience or tact.

I can only guess, my application didn't fit their lifestyle profiling.

Virgin insurance is provided by the same company that covers Aussie post insurance.

But Powerevolution is right. There is a cooling off period. Use it fast.

  • If you were misled then you can cancel for a full refund regardless of the cooling off period (within a reasonable period after becoming aware of the issue). Contact the Financial Ombudsman if you are having problems.
