Laptop from OLC Direct - What's Your Opinion on This?

Hi you awesome Ozbargainers :)

I've listened to your advice and bought a work Legendary Lenovo E580 for my business so huge thank you to all.

However, there was a problem with OLC direct. With the display picture on ebay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323143770040), it has a black Lenovo laptop and clearly says the laptop has backlit keyboard in writing. However, laptop that I received is silver and does not have backlit keyboard. I cannot just refund the laptop because I will need the laptop for next 4 weeks. They may have removed the picture by the time you guys click the link.

They insisted that ebay picture did not have backlit keyboard on it until I told them I am willing to forward the email that I got from ebay (which included the picture). After an intense discussion, best they can do is to provide me with a lenovo yoga mouse or do a full refund. I asked them if they are willing to give $49.99 compensation since Lenovo website has an option for that amount and got rejected. OLC direct said it is impossible for them to exchanged the same model laptop with a backlit keyboard.

What do you guys think about this?
Any advice would be great!

Thank you so much guys.

"Its backlighting, available as an option, lets you use it in low-light surroundings and complete even the most urgent of tasks despite the late hours."

They used generic copy that you relied on.

    • Thank you so much for your reply sir :) There was no option to choose from when I purchased an item therefore I thought it must have the backlit keyboard. When I asked about it, they said there was no Lenovo E580 with backlit keyboard in the first place.

      • therefore I thought it must have the backlit keyboard.

Yeah, shouldn't make assumptions like that, and certainly not when you're already paying cheap prices on eBay. There's a reason why online eBay sellers are cheaper. No, not because they're necessarily dodgy, but because they skim on things like photos and marketing material.

Understood. Thanks once again for your help. I highly appreciate it :) I am learning so much from you guys

        • @watupman:

So now I guess the question is, do you take the free mouse?

  • Yeah I'm not sure, personally it says "as an option" so I'm a bit here and there whether its really a "false add", I kind of lean on your side a bit that its not really clear.
The thing is you say they offered to "do a full refund" which personally I feel is adequate, I don't think they have any reason to give you more then that, even if the thing was broken or the complete wrong laptop.

    • Thank you so much for your reply :) I edited the title. I would love to do a full refund but I cannot afford to not have laptop for several days. Thanks you. OZbargainers are awesome :)

  • This isn't "urgent", you're not going to die over this…

    • Sorry about that :( I will edit the title. Thank you :)

  • Says clearly in the description:

Its backlighting, available as an option

Who relies on the picture only and doesn't read the actual description? It's not like it was in fineprint.

And this happens all the time. Go to Dell's site and they'll be using stock photos of their laptops too.

This one's on you for not reading the product description closely enough - if you care enough, take the full refund. If you don't, or can't… that's that.

    • I so should have read the actual description carefully. Didn't know it happens all the time. Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. :)

      • No worries - as far as problems go, this is (imho) a relatively small one. I've seen people lose thousands because they misread or misunderstood something.

I spoke to two staff members about this matter and one of them was quite apologetic. He seemed like a decent person. Thank you so much for your help :)

Do you need the backlit keyboard?

    • I would loved to have one therefore I was extra more keen to buy E580 from these guys. I don't really need a new mouse but I am pleased that they were being flexible rather than ignoring the problem :)

But there have been prior listings such as this:

Was that the one OP bought?

The thing is though - the seller's already offered a full refund, and said they don't have any with a backlit keyboard. Unfortunately that's the extent of OP's options if they want to do something.

        • Thank you so much for providing an image. I'am such a computer noob that I did not know how to attached the photo. Yes, this is the image that was listed when I bought the product. Thanks for your help :)

        • @HighAndDry: Yes, this is the one that I bought. Unfortunately I did not want a full refund as I really need to use a laptop for next 4 weeks.

        • @watupman:
Can they offer you a quick refund and you can buy what you really want elsewhere?

          @holdenmg:
I wanted this specific laptop after getting recommended by several knowledgeable Ozbargainers. Unfortuantely, Ordering it from Lenovo would take too long to arrive. Apart from not having backlit keybaord and laptop being siliver, I am happy with E580 :)

          @watupman: What about:

          https://www.lmc.com.au/products/Notebooks_and_Laptops/Lenovo…

Keyboard: Backlit Keyboard with Number Pad - English

(Although stated, ask LMC to check that it is Backlit). :+)
