    Time to pull the trigger!?

    For a TEAC? No…

    • +2

I love how jv can have the most plus votes and the most neg votes on the same deal.

      • -1

        Yin and yang

        • keep it up :)

    • +6

Surely you have something better to do with your time?

  • Made in Europe

Is that a good thing nowadays?

    • +1

Doesn't mean much anyway… It's basically shipping 90% of the components from China to Europe to assemble together then call it "made in Europe".

      • -1

It's basically shipping 90% of the components from China

basically 90% of the raw materials for the components are from Australia, they just manufacture them and call it "made in China"

        • Well minerals are just being sent to China not sheets of metal. It's more about the materials they make out of the raw materials rather than the raw materials.

        • +1

just manufacture them and call it "made…"

How dare they say they made something they manufactured!

        • -1

          @thevofa:

          It's terrible, isn't it….

    • Sounds better than "Assembled in Moldova".

    What's comparable to a Hisense 65N7?

    • +3

?? You want a comparable 65" model to last years hisense on a post about a teac 55…..

    • +2

This year’s 65P7 would be most comparablel to last year’s 65N7.

  • I picked up the Sony 65 inch one for 995 a while ago. 50Hz for gaming has been perfectly fine even for fast paced games. HDR on Ps4 looks stunning.

    • +3

Agreed, pay a bit more for a better one.

  • I am not sure those JVC, TEAC nowadays is it still the same as we know many years ago.

    • I am sure. That they're not.
TEAC used to be elite. I had a brochure of their audiophile equipment once - it was insane.
Now, they're a budget brand somehow.

      • Bought out by a chinese company now i believe

        • Yeah, like so many. AKAI isn't AKAI anymore. JVC isn't JVC anymore. Polaroid isn't Polaroid anymore….

    • +3

TEAC was acquired by Gibson Guitars (now Gibson Brands) in 2013. They are looking to unload their unprofitable consumer electronics holdings due to bankruptcy concerns. They also own ONKYO (and therefore Pioneer), Philips, amongst others.

JVC was majority owned by (as it is now) Panasonic Corporation until 2008. It merged with Kenwood Corporation under a holding company, JVC Kenwood Holdings. JVC and Kenwood ceased to exist as separate corporations in 2011 as a result of an absorption-type merger. Its TVs are manufactured under licences in North America and Europe. The European TVs are made by a Turkish company.

      • Dang…. in other words, who knows what you're buying nowadays! Long gone are the days where you could tell the quality of a product by its label. Nowadays, a quick google of reviews is the only way to know.

  • Not sure how good the TEAC is but I'd wait until a good Sony or Hisense deal comes up again. Got my Sony X6700 55 for $680ish on an OzB deal just a few months ago.

  • This tv has HDR which is good

Pay wish discounted gift card to save another $50 or so.

No need to buy extended warranty though Manufacturer's Warranty - 1 Year as ACCC will provide ar least 3 to 5 years warranty considering its 2018 tv and RRP is above $1000+

Also before purchase ask staff to turn on channel 7 or 9 or sbs etc and see picture quality .

    • Neither the Teac website or the product manual says anything about HDR, let alone HDR10. I think JB got this wrong.

      • If that’s the case purchase , test and trial and return with full refund 👍

  • Here's an eBay listing that claims that this model has HDR10:

Note the top/bottom banners in the first five photos.

    • Kinda interesting what theyve done there. If you flick through those pics, it might be the third or fourth, thy show a pic of a box. Now the BOX pic, is the Box for an A5 series which absolutely DOES have HDR10 ( i think it might also be 3d) where as the TV itself, is an A4 series, similar but a step downward.

  • Waiting for Catch to bring the 65" TEAC back again.

  • I really doubt it’s made in Europe.

Best to see the unit, look at the back sticker that will say where it is made.

Handy guide for brands - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/382101

    • The sticker on the back says….. made in Europe.

  • Well, I just ordered one. Will report back when it arrives.

  • FYI, Rang JB, the box teac are sending them out in has HDR 10 bottom left hand corner. UNless theyre sending them out in the wrong box or something which isnt entirely out of the realm of possibility. Either way, when I have it set up i'll report back.

  • I bought one today with the 5% off and 5% off eGift cards (through entertainment book), so that made it about $630. It said HDR on the box, as well as "Made in Europe". I haven't unboxed it yet tho.

There were about 5 boxes at JB's Innaloo when I first went in, 2 boxes left when i picked it up later. None on display which was a bummer.

    • When you get around to setup, can you report back with anthing on HDR please? Ive been able to get 4k10 bit at 24hz but no higher. I had to enable to HDMI channel via menue tinkering. Also, not sure if it made a difference but I set dynamic contrast to high. I'm NOT exactly an expert with this kinda thing so ws just kinda turning on/off everything I could and seeing what worked. If/when you get around to it, some feedback would be greatly appreciated .

      • Sorry mate, I'm not good at these things either. Have tinkered with some things, looks a lot better. How'd you enable HDR?

        Loving the TV.

        • What dis you change to improve the picture?

        • @Stahh:
Through the picture menu i put in settings such as:
          Mode- sports
          Advanced - dynamic contrast- high
          Noise reduction - high
          Colour temp - warm

          I liked these.

And i did find what @gid78 said in Settings - Sources - Enhanced. Though i don't have much by way or peripheries.

  • Good description OP with the gaming suggestion. Thumbs up from me. Anyone know if this can be used as a pc monitor i.e has chroma subsampling 4:4:4 for clearer non blurry text.

I personally want a 65/75 inch but for a friend this could be a good deal to watch for TV and use as laptop monitor up close.

  • I bought one yesterday. Colors are pretty good on it and I wasn't expecting it to be that good.
I used 5%off coupon and I had $350 worth of vouchers (jb hifi).
There was none of these for display but I just pulled the trigger and got one.

For those who are wondering about the thickness on the Tv, it's not slimline when you see from the side. It is about 1.5 inches thick.
    I hope that helps
    Thanks

Ok, definately NOT a HDR10 TV despite the box very clearly saying HDR. Not getting ANY HDR from it via X1X, infact my xbox is telling me I dont have an HDR TV.

  • Update ( apologies for the spam, unable to edit previous comment for some reason)
Have been able to get 4k 10 bit at 24hz with my xbox telling me i'll get SOME hdr content, obviously none for gaming or anything higher than 24hz.

  • +2

I apologise for my posting spam. I cannot edit my comments or I'd have just done so.
Another update. As it turns out, after some further tinkering, turning on the " enhanced" function on the HDMI channel Im using and setting up my xbox correctly, it turns out that I now have full HDR10 for gaming, watching movies, at 24, 50 and 60hz, all of it. It IS a genuine HDR10 tv which I find genuinely astonishing for the 640 odd bucks I wound up paying for it. Jump on it.

    • Can you please advise how you set up it for hdr?

      • +1

Ok, just as a quick disclaimer, I did it via HDMI for my xbox one x. I'm assuming you have somehting similar like a high end blueray or what have you.
The tv itself isnt going to say " ok, now Im showing you HDR, whatever you have that youre trying to get hdr content through should though. As my xbox has with me.
Ignoring the " picture" setting which I fumbled around in for aged trying to find some hidden setting, I went into " settings" then " source" from there I noticed I could play with my particular HDMI channel settings, enable, disable and ( here it is) " enhanced"

(Now back in the picture settings I also have HDMI full range enabled , honestly not sure if thats part of it too but it's what I have so figured Id mention it, it sounds like it'd be involved too)

On my xbox ( ill mention this because whatever youre using may have similar settings) i have 10 bit 30 enabled and obviously made sure I had the 4k and HDR boxes checked and so on.
By screen went blank a sec, I actually though " oh fn great Ive broken the cheap heap of crap" but it turned out to just be setting itself up to deliver what I asked for. Suddenly the green margian on my xbox looked a lot better againt the black background, I wondered, so went and checked the 4k settings on it.. I had everything in the green, my xbox was telling me my tv was now delivering 4k HDR for everything including gaming. I started The Witcher 3 up, looked great but it had nothing to specifically tell me about HDR so I went into assassing creed origins and wow, after fiddling with the hdr settings it looks amazing, also checked that insects demo app they have, looked great and I could use all the HDR functions

        • Thanks for taking the time to explain I also wanted this for my xbox so worked great!

  • +1

How do you to activate HDR10?? btw tv is gre at for the price smart function is fast but cant seem to find STAN?

    • Yeah mate, i really enjoy the SmartTV function. Quick & well designed. I'm clueless about HDR too.

  • I can't get the TV to play through my amp. Anyone have any issues with that?

    • Did you manage to get this working through the amp.
Currently trying to do the same but it is simply not working.
Switched to amplifier output on the settings but still sound coming through the TV speakers.

      • No… haven't tried since, have been too busy unfortunately. I might try different cables, i actually thought there might be something wrong with mine.

Got it to work through the headphone output but that's not really what i was wanting!

      • I am using the ARC on my blueray hometheatre and it works fine.

I replaced Sony WDL700 with this one so no issues at all.

        • Receiver doesnt have ARC unfortunately.
Still not working with optical. No response from TEAC to an email requesting support with this.

My parents bought one of these despite my warnings.
Picture quality is crap. Washed out colours. Tried adjusting settings for about 10 mins and got it marginally better. Slow picture refresh - sport is completely unwatchable.
Sound quality is dreadful - looking at outputing through the toslink to a decoder so we can use some existing speakers.

Wouldnt recommend this at all. save your money and put it towards a name brand.

    • Agreed, pay more for a good one.

You will watch it everyday and may last a few year. Remember saw a Soniq at friend's home I want to ask him throw it away.

    • I watched sport on it today and it looked great. Each to their own i guess!

      • +1

I agree. The pic on freeview is..well.. its what you get. Via a good 4k source with HDR and some tinkering, I found the pic to be pretty good.
Its never going to be like some 5 thousand dollar OLED but for what it is, it's great.
I dont knopw anywhere else were gonna find a 10bit 4k HDR for 700 odd bucks to boot. Its astonishing really.

  • Couldn't find any in stock in SE QLD.

  • I just went to buy one of these after reading they support HDR for PS4 pro (thanks to whoever confirmed that). JB HIFI in Gold Coast said sold out at all locations. HOWEVER I got it on ebay for about $666 delivered with code PENNY5 + Cashrewards. There still seem to be some available on Ebay for whoever wants one.

Anyone know what brand panel this is? Dont suppose its even worth asking about compatible firmware updates…

    • not the JB HIFI ebay store
