First brought into service in WWII the Ka-Bar fighting knife has stood the test of time.

  Are these things legal??

  Trusting life to one of these?? Using a knife to defend yourself is not a reasonable excuse under NSW laws - not sure about other states.

    Hi OZPete - Yes these knives are legal to own.

    In NSW you can't carry any knife (or any other dangerous implement) in public without lawful excuse (ie sport, hunting etc).

    You may need a permit in Vic…

    and be over 16 in all jurisdictions.

        Sorry - the material posted was historical fact. I'm sure there are a heap of USMC ex-servicemen that used the blades for that purpose but that's not promoting such uses today in suburbia.

  Not everyone who buys a knife are druggies looking to kill people. Collectors, campers, outdoor sportsman all have a legitimate excuse to use one. Just because you might not have a legitimate excuse to own one does not mean everyone does.
