Unable to Cancel eBay Plus

Just attempting to cancel my ebay plus trial membership before the next billing cycle, I got through to the cancellation page, selected my reason for cancelling and then clicked the cancel button and it then just pops up a long skinny horizontal box with an X at the right hand side. I return again to the cancel page and it seems it has not cancelled. Tried a few times with different reasons for cancellation but still no go.

Using Windows 10 and Chrome.

Anyone else had this problem? Will try MS Edge to see if that makes a difference before contacting Ebay.

  • I just cancelled using my phone (classic view, tick desktop site in browser settings) and it went through fine.

  • Had the same problem trying it in my browser, went and talked to their chat and cancelled that way.

    • How long ago did you have the problem, would be a bit odd if they havent fixed the issue quickly.

      • That was yesterday morning. Might've had enough people hit their chat system (without enough being retained via the chat) that they may as well fix the auto-cancel function.

        • Did they attempt to win you back via chat?

  • I just cancelled mine now via chrome on windows 10! no issues at all!

  • Just cancelled mine.
Alternatively go to Paypal and cancel auto payments as well just to be safe.

Yep I 'cancelled' my trial when I started it. So was surprised to see that I got charged a month later for a service I canceled.
Make sure to cancel in Paypal.

    • good tip… done.

  • Still wasnt working in Chrome as of about 4pm, but seemed to cancel ok using Edge browser.

  • ffs, I cancelled and reached the same stage as you so I just assumed it went through.
got charged - going to call them and complain. I'm glad you made a post because now I'll be able to say that I'm not the only one. Thanks!

  • I also had this problem. Tried on my mobile phone and in a web browser at work. Both failed.

    Almost felt it was deliberate.

Got a sales pitch when I had to cancel using chat.

  • +1

They got me too. Cancelled the trial last week, got billed on the weekend.
According to them there is no record of the cancellation, and I should have known it was not processed because there was no confirmation email - even though it said it was cancelled and didn't mention anything about such notification (nor is it mentioned in their terms and conditions, which they religiously defer to).

  • Bit of a late reply, but I also had issues trying to cancel then forgot about it and got charged. I did a live chat saying I know there T&Cs say no refund, but I think that unfair and almost illegal that there is no cooling off period. I was told she will ask, then my chat got disconnected. I went back to live chat, "Wait time 23 minutes" where as before I got connected instantly. #sus

    • I was in the same situation, I asked for cancellation but they denied. I got a Google Home Mini as a free gift ( you should get one too ) - I sold that for $40 and my membership cost me just $10 for the next year. I have already cancelled my auto renewal so that I don't get charged next year!

      • Don't think that promo is still on, think I'd have more luck asking for a FabergĂ© egg from the Queen

  • No longer a problem.
Now Ebay is scamming us by providing a "View Invoice" link, instead of a "Edit Membership" link, which is the only label available.

NO POSSIBILITY OF CANCELLING -> EVIL PLUS <-, So be warned, don't sign up. Ozbargain staff should ban Ebay and Paypal permanently for this criminal behaviour.

I've just spent ages in Paypal who are similarly hiding links to stop their corrupt corporate crap.
    Sick of it!

  • Having the same issue here. Pretty i cancelled last year, just got charged today.
Ebay is saying I have took advantage of their free shipping service while the items i bought is listed free shipping anyway.

    • Exactly what they said to me and exactly what I said lol
