Landlord Says I Can't Choose Energy Provider

I would like to shop around the energy provider, in Sydney. Landlord says I have to stick with energy provider, as this building has a contract with a energy company.

I think I am forced to take a energy provider instead of choosing provider to my best choice.

Please give me your feedback?

  • Yes same here. Seems Im stuck with one electricity provider on my apartment complex too

    • How the bills coming up for you?

      • It's not excessive, far from the cheapest. I try not to dwell on it considering i can't change it

After a while u stop caring

    tl;dr the subject line

  • I've lived in low income housing with the same situation.

  • I'd just do it anyway. What's the worst that will happen? You'll either get connected to another RSP or they'll tell you it's not possible.

I have to stick with energy provider which is this building has a contract with energy company only for utility connection.

That’s right. Tenants in nsw shouldn’t be able to choose the electricity provider. However, it may be possible for them to choose the electricity retailer. Tenants should check the lease.

  • What's the usual difference in prices for you guys? I think I need to shop around too but Tbh Remy current one is not too bad maybe top 5 competitive in my area.

  • But the landlord's don't pay the electricity bill - so why would they care who the retailer is? Wouldn't a vote at a body corporate meeting be enough to change the electricity retailer? What are the risks to the landlord… electricity is a commodity?

    • Wouldn't a vote at a body corporate meeting

      Tenants can’t vote in nsw.

  • I had the same at my old apartment, it was an embedded network. Bills were about $150 every two months.

  • Yeap embedded network, probably operated by grubs like WinEnergy.
