  • Why are road workers so expensive?

Historically speaking people usually rise up in times of economic turmoil. You wont have much longer to wait….

Yeah. I'm sick of driving 6 hours to my holiday house. The other 200 "residents" demand a high speed rail.

You need to live in a marginal electorate.

Sorry but you can't choose to live in a rural area and expect metropolitan services.

It is one of the trade offs you chose to make.

Only if they think that there is a Red Light Camera.

  • With no or minimal public transport in many country towns owning a car is essential and as everyone owns or has access to a car introducing public transport is uneconomic. Why get a bus when you've got a car on the drive and parking is relatively cheap?

Parking in Melbourne CBD is very expensive so it's worth parking for free at a local station and catching the train in. That makes train services in demand and worth running even though they are still very heavily subsidized but it's cheaper for the state government to run more trains instead of building 10 lane freeways to handle the morning peak.

  • Central Victoria is lovely, roads are mostly calm and there's a decent rail service to much of it.

The rest of the place is poorly serviced as it must be, it's very lightly populated.

You must live in a bubble. I travel around Victoria for work and plenty of roadworks and upgrades going on but nice try Malcolm Turnbull

  • Most of the "satellite" cities, like Geelong, have bus services that run every 20 minutes during the day and every 1 hour during the evening. As a kid I also used to ride my bike into the city from Bell Post Hill if I didn't want to catch the bus. I disagree with the car comment above, when you are a kid you make your own way around places. There is also a rail service that runs, roughly, every 1 hour between Melbourne and Geelong.

If you are further out in the sticks then you might be a bit more stuck but it is a trade off between convenience and house prices. Australia has some of the most urbanised cities in the world; most of our population is clustered around our major cities so that is where the transport is also clustered.

Because Melbourne city has millions of people and they need infrastructure, Country Victoria, not so many.

When Horsham gets to 3 million people, I’m sure the infrastructure will improve along with its exponential growth…

  • Not just Victoria. Most areas outside capital cities are not serviced as well as the city.
