Entry Level Turntables under $350 AUD

I've been quite interested in the Fluance RT81 however I have had great difficulty obtaining it at a reasonable price. The alternative being TEAC 400s that is already priced higher defeats the purpose. I'm looking for an entry level, aesthetically pleasing (preferably some type of wood finish) turntable that can deliver respectable playback. The aforementioned products were reasonably priced on Amazon however they don't ship to AUS… in 2018… Please help with some suggestions/recommendations or providing a means to obtaining those models at a reasonable price (<$350AU)

Thank you in advanced!

USB is not a deal breaker
Prefer belt drive but not against direct given that there are no major issues
Prefer S shaped tone arm
Much prefer built in pre-amp

      huh?

  • We have a few Technics linear, possibly 115 V AC, but we'll have to check that they aren't multi-voltage designs.

I think Technics is a Panasonic brand…? Expect something good from each of those brands, IMO.

  • Thousands of awesome old school ones kicking around on Gumtree and Facebook. They're your best bet. I got mine, and an amp (both 80s Pioneer), and my speakers (70s Onkyo) from a mate and Gumtree respectively. Superb sound for $180 bucks all up. Get a male 3.5mm jack to the auxiliary input and you're laughing.

Don't waste your money buying new, nothing's changed in that game really.

    • What model did you get? I've looked around on gumtree too but everything is suspiciously overpriced..any recommendations??

      • Turntable is a Pioneer PL-S50, amp is a Pioneer SA-8500. Both work beautifully.

I don't really have any recommendations other than buy stuff that's still silver metal body (i.e. after the wood/fake wood generation, but before the black plastic generation) and you should be right. There's plenty of places around that will help you out if something's broken, at least to diagnose it. There are manuals and repair guides etc all over the internet too for this old stuff because people know it's good.
