[Unobtainable Deal] [NSW] Sony A7III Body Only $2505.80 @ Sony Kiosk (Parramatta)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

First post!
Been looking to buy the A7M3 since its release but I missed last month's Nofrillssydney eBay deal.
Today I was passing by the Sony Kiosk in Parramatta. They did not show the price tag for the A7M3 then I asked the price.
After they told me $2505.8 and I brought it without hesitation.
They don't have any stock at the moment just like NoFills and other camera stores.
The staff also told me the M3 will come in mid-August but I think Sony would prioritise their own.
Considering it is an Au stock so I think it still a great bargain.
I was too excited to ask them when the promotion will end. Please tell me if you know.

Very cheap. I've been using mine for a few weeks now. Absolutely enamoured.

Ps. Mid August sounds like a big shipment. I have a few G series lenses all quoted mid August.

    • Definitely a big shipment!

It's a price error. You got a pretty good deal though.

      • Just got news my lenses are in.

been using for 2 months now. what a camera 💯

    • Just waited for a discount.

    • have you been using DSLRs from Canon and Nikon before coming to this Sony ? Was looking for some first hand experience between the two systems, specifically AF performance against something like a Nikon D30 or D700 etc

      • My team uses mix of Canon and Sony. The major difference is continuous AF on video, up until 5D4 it was non existent in Canon. Apart from that they are practically on par.. but note that each camera performs best with its native lenses. And the only benefit in Canon is that there are more native lenses available. IMO anyway

        • Thanks for the info. This sounds pretty good. Tried some mirror less from Fuji, mostly first gen, and wasnt happy with their AF.

      • Sony EYE AF is amazing
Check out youtube videos of it

I use CAF Wide on Shutter, Eye on another button, Centre AF Spot on another button and another button to quickly switch to MF
That combo is amazing and fast

        • Gee that sounds so awesome.

          Should start saving up

  • Did you happen to see how much the A7RIII was going for?

    • There is a price tag shows 3730 for the R3

      • Thanks! :)

        • +1

          $3730 also a good bargain! :)

  • Has anyone been successful getting it for this price at Sony Kiosks elsewhere?

Forget the price, has anyone in Perth visually sighted a Sony Kiosk? :)

      • Wasn't there a sony store in Perth?
        has that shut down?

        • +1

There used to be 2-3. All have gone bust

  • Wonder if it's price matchable at others or even JB…

    • Nope.. JB said that they won't match a quote price. I find the Sony Kiosk in Parra to be pretty good. Got pretty good deals for a couple of my friends.

  • Solid price! Love the A7iii for video work.

  • Did you get the extra battery and the charger? They are stupidly expensive!

    • yep comes with five spare batteries with that price.

  • I called the Kiosk this morning, they are still asking for the full price ($2999) for back order, but can price match George’s to $2948. Maybe there is other conidtions for the discount?

    • Thats quite odd. Can anyone clarify?

      • Possible that the OP might have gotten it at a discount as part of a membership program run by Sony?

  • I'm looking for an A7 iii also, was wondering if vendors would be able to match based on ur reciept

  • Sony A7III or gh5 for video?

    • +1

      gh5

      • GH5s (the S version is designed for video)

    • +2

Depends what type of videos you are hoping to create and if you are going to use it for stills as well..

      Comparing on Video alone:

If you are doing talking heads the GH5 (no time recording limit)
If you are looking for bokeh the A73 - this would be probably main reason to get it and lose benefits the GH5 offers
If you are looking for best IBIS - GH5 (the GH5S has no IBIS btw)
For colour grading and 10 bit 4:2:2 video GH5 (Sony is only 4:2:0)
For greater dynamic range I believe the A7III but I could be wrong on this
For better low light capabilities the Sony (And soon the A7SIII perhaps?)
For more sensor spacial data downscaled to 4K the Sony A7III
      Better focusing - Sony A7III

Both cameras are very good in video and stills but the GH5 is a bit more targetted towards video - and the Lumix G9 is a closer relative to the Sony as the A7III and G9 are video/stills focused.

I think you'll be happy regardless of which you choose (for Video) but the correct choice again depends on your target use.

Worth mentioning that the Blackmagic Pocket 4K camera is due in September, which will force Panasonic to drop the price of their GH5S which is the closest competitor in criteria because of the higher capabilities vs the GH5S.

I work in Parra Westfield and unfortunately I'm not working today (Sunday), but will suss it out tomorrow and update you guys whether the deal is still on-going

      -update-

So I called Parramatta Sony Kiosk and they notified me that they currently have a 15% discount on cameras. Accidentally, one of their staff gave 15% off to the newly model A7III, which was not suppose to be discounted. RIP

      • Oh thanks mate. So 15% off some cameras not all.

        • Yep, some of their older models

      • +1

So score one for the OP… we now know why the OP was so excited.

START THE CAR!!! START THE CAR…..

      • Wow, can I still get the camera in my circumstance?

        • You should have no prob. You're just waiting for a pick up notice.

        • Technically they sold it to you already so it should be fine, unless they want to argue $500 back from you. Since it is SONY's fault with their staff, I highly doubt they will chase you. But who knows…

        • +1

@CVonC: Thanks guys, just received the camera :)

  • So I am poor and don't really want to pay too much. I can get the a7ii for half that price. I use it for travel, and some events. Worth it or splurge for something I use once a month or so?

    • Go on photographt forums and pick up a second hand a7Rii. There's heaps on the count of a7iii.
