Changing Flights with Aunt Betty

I recently booked some Singapore Airlines flights to Vietnam with AuntBetty as they were much cheaper than booking with the airline direct (I always book with the airline normally). I want to extend my trip by a few days but I’m having trouble getting through to AuntBetty - I tried twice on the phone before giving up both times after being on hold for almost an hour, and I then sent them an email through their change flights form on their website, but this was about 5 days ago now with no response.

Does anyone have any experience changing flights with AuntBetty and can offer any advice?

There seems to be a pattern of people having issues contacting them:

You could get a quote from flight betty etc and then take it into flight center or some other reputable place who will price match.

Changing a cheap fare will cost you a lot more than you probably expect.

  • Managed to get through on the phone today - change fee is fairly high as I thought.

My tip is to read terms and conditions really carefully.
My experience is that cheap fares are great if you don't need to make any changes. My guess is that cheap prices are good but some companies make their profit by charging consumers really high charges for any changes made after original booking.
It would be interesting to know how much FlyingAce had to pay and whether this was greater than he would have paid if he had used airline direct or did Aunt Betty ticket and change fee still a cheaper way to buy an airfare?

    • I travel overseas a couple of times a year, and always book through the airline direct, just this time was cheaper booking through Aunt Betty. I know about the limitations of cheap airfares.

I paid about $650 for my Brisbane-Singapore-Da Nang-Singapore-Brisbane flight with Singapore Airlines. Aunt Betty wanted $450 to change the return flight by 5 days.

A one-way flight on the date I wanted to change to with Emirates was $320, and with Singapore Airlines about $350.

I spoke to a Singapore Airlines sales agent in Australia and they said that before I travel I would have to change any flights through the booking company (Aunt Betty). Once I had taken my first sector I should then be able to change direct with the airline, which would be cheaper.
