iPhone 4 Vs. HTC Legend - Which One's Better?

Hi all,
I'm looking to start a new $29 plan and am tossing up between the Iphone 4 and the HTC Legend. I'm not particularly a tech geek so will really just want it for surfing the net and obviously calls/texts. Also want to download a few games. Has anyone had any experience with either? Any advice would be great!

Cheers

  • htc hd2 imo

  • Used HTC phones for years before iphones came out (they were branded as iMates). Have had iPhones last 2 years. Both phones have their fans but its the iPhone4 for me (still has more apps too, many free :) … we've become a largely "Apple household" over the last 2-3 years and the integration of the various devices makes life easy … although Androids seem to be on the march :)

  • htc with android would be better i reckon. Android has so much better apps and prices… usually free ;-)

    • I wouldn't say better apps!
But potentially they 'can' get better. Right now the android market is still in a mess. Lots of repeating apps and/or useless apps.

Give it another year or so to catch up to Apple's iStore.

Granted that Apple is, and always will be, 4 years ahead of Android in terms of app development. However that fact can change if developers stick faithfully to Google.

Personally, I would recommend iPhone4 for now. But sooner or later I will go back to Android.
(Currently have iPhone4, Galaxy S and Optimus One)

    • It's not a fair comparison. In no sense is the Legend better than the iPhone 4!
I'm all for Android phones, I own a Galaxy S and love it, but the Legend is a low powered, low resolution device. Just looking at the hardware, let alone the experience of using it, the iPhone 4 wins on all counts!

A fairer comparison is the Galaxy S or Desire HD vs iPhone… Hardware wise, they compare pretty fairly. Now you can start to compare the usability, features list etc according to your preferences.
(Be aware that there are new Dual Core Android handsets coming soon or possibly even already here that surpass the iPhone in sheer processing power.)

I prefer Android, and it shows promise as a Phone system that will suit the majority in the near future. But I still think it's a bit a of a technophile's choice for the time being. The iPhone is easy to use and doesn't require the user to tinker with settings to make it run acceptably.

Price wise, the Legend ought to be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper.. ie you ought to be able to buy 2 Legends, for the same price as 1 iPhone!

  • If you're "not particularly a tech geek", I'd go for the iPhone. I've never owned one, but many friends do. I have the HTC Desire HD and to them, all the choice and options on Android are too complex…too techy.

    • I agree. Purely from the "non-tech" side of things. You'll find it easier to get help from others if you have issues and need support. It's also easier to find accessories and toys for the iPhone.

  • iPhone 4 is better than another phone out there. Apps and games from the apple store is second to none

    • +1

      which other phone..?

For a better out-of-the-box experience, iPhone 4 would be the way to go.

But if you like tinkering with the phone, installing all sorts of apps to change how it works/looks, then Android is for you.

That said a HTC Legend won't hold a candle against an iPhone, considering it's only a middle-end phone and only has a 600mhz CPU.
The iPhone is almost twice as fast and twice as costly.

  • I own a HTC legend. And it's better than a Iphone 4 which I've played with.

    the HTC legend is better.

    • hows the reception with the HTC and is there any lag when it comes to the touch screen and app usage?

    • lol i love that vid
      some many other ones

Question that many miss is who can give you an iphone4 on a $29 cap? I thought you had to start higher than that and also make a weekly payment.

As Scrimshaw says the HTC Legend is another class of phone and it doesn't cost as much. So you are not comparing like classes of phones

    • I can only think of vodafone/3 having legend on $29 dollar cap. Considering that, they have the iphone4 @ $59(16gb) or $84(32gb) a month.

So you can definately get 2 legends for one 16gb version iphone. Hm… Since your thinking of only spending $29, i suggest getting the legend as its a good phone for the price.

      @ spaceangelz
I saw your question about lag - as i own a legend right now, i think that as long as you dont install too many customisations and have too many widgets running at the same time, you'll definately find no lag. Though if your one who likes to customise, there is still little lag and responsiveness decreases. As for app usage, its pretty normal. Runs all the apps i need =]

I might like to add that vodafone/3 has poor reception depending where you are. LIke, i have definately heard many many complaints about them. So another phone for $29 dollars is Sony Ericcson x10i on Virgin on the big $29 cap. Gives you $450 credit a month which is plenty. I think this is a even BETTER phone than the legend for the price, though i dont own it. Downside to it is the lack of multitouch. ^^

    • What ozpete said — HTC Legend is a different class of phone comparing to iPhone. Medium range of smart phone with a very weak CPU (ARM11 600MHz released in 2010 — what are they thinking?!) but a very nice unibody shell. HVGA display that has 1/4 the pixel of iPhone 4. Slower, less memory, etc.

But it runs Android. And a lot cheaper on contract.

  • Hey all
thanks for the advice, in the end opted for the HTC Legend $29 per month with Crazy John's with 1gb data monthly. Had the option of $29 on Three but it was with an added $27 per month for the iphone handset

So far the HTC seems quite good so am happy with what I need it for

    Cheers

  • -3

forget iphone, go sonyericsson, better value for money

  • does the htc legend come with any branding if purchased through vodaphone/3 etc?

  • i do not know the relationship between ur title and the content

    • is that directed at me? i thought seeing as he/she has purchased their phone, i could ask a question regarding the software loaded on their phone - i'm assuming crazy john is a reseller of voda/3 which i think are the only networks licensed to sell the legend.
