Any Thoughts on CarRentals.com

I am trying to arrange a hire car for a trip to the States later in the year.
I have looked at lots of options and the one that is BY FAR the cheapest is carrentals.com
Unfortunately they also have lots of negative reviews online - but a lot of the ones I read were people complaining that they'd made the wrong booking, had to cancel, or other stupid stuff and carrentals.com wasn't very flexible or accommodating of their stupidity.
There is one other thing, when I factor in their insurance it jumps a bit, but I think I can get insurance seperately anyway.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this site - I mean, they are part of Expedia so its not like they are just some random scammers…???

    economycarrentals.com and rentalcars.com are the 2 that I usually go with. However, last trip it was cheaper to go directly with Hertz (with free Gold membership).

    I've used this a few times, was or close to cheapest each time: http://www.discountusacarrental.com
    Last time I used it, had a minor issue with insurance when checking in to get the car (supposed to have full insurance but wasn't showing up). A quick call to them and they resolved it right away, even the check-in lady was impressed.

    I say if the comparison tool finds you a good deal, replicate it on the official vendor's site for maximum points / perks.
