I am not an expert but polishing car could be tiring with hand and this could be great to complete the job in few hours (BE CAREFUL not to damage the paint)

  is there a cordless version?

  any recommendation for a guide on how to use this to polish car as weekend hero type?

  i thought it would be as easy as put on wax and start going, but apparently, there are more precautions than i ever thought.

    AVOID AVOID AVOID this particular polisher if you are a beginner.

    In fact you don't need any power tools to apply wax. Just wax on, wax off - a foam applicator pad can be had cheap from any auto store.

    As a basic guide

    • Polishing is for when your paint has defects and needs correcting - examples are "spider web" swirls, scratches, marring, holograms, orange peel, etc. All of these effect how "shiny" your paint appears to some degree. Polishing is cutting into your paints clear coat to remove these defects and restore the sheen. So there is an element of risk where if you use poor technique or tools (such as this), then you could irreversibly damage the paint. That said, it's not difficult to do a good job, and a Dual Action Polisher is highly recommended and makes this process much safer. As a beginner, I would start with a good wash + wax and see if you still want to polish from there.
    • Waxing is applying a layer of carnauba or synthetic wax over the top of the clear coat and is totally safe. This both fills in light scratches and restores/adds a lot of shine and lustre. Carnauba wax is fairly short term (1-2 months) and synthetic "sealant" is longer term (6 months) with more protection, but less shine.
    • If your paint has stubborn contaminents still there after a wash, such as bird crap, sap, paint overspray, etc., then a clay bar (fairly safe) can remove them before waxing.

    As for guides, check out AMMO on Youtube, they go into a lot of detail but its worth doing right. Also some good PDFs to follow on their site.
