Aquarium Fish Forums

Am after some local aquarium fish forums that also trade/sell fish privately. Gumtree is now filled with petshops advertising their livestock.

Thanks

  • Fish are called livestock?

      Not if they're dead

      • I see what you guys did there

    Forums are dead.
    Generally replaced by FB Groups.

      How ironic.

      • Explain the irony.

5 Forums I was a member of have folded in the last 2 years.
I had to stop and think, is OZB a forum?
Well yeah, but when I think of Forums they are “generally” clunky and IMO not user friendly.
OZB is heavily optimized to deliver a far better end user experience.

        • Though I do agree that forums have largely been replaced by FB Groups, I disagree that forums are not user friendly in general. It is a lot easier to categorise and sort out forum topics compared to FB Groups where everything is just categorised as one.

    • Sadly true, facebook is becoming so ubiquotuos.

  • The fish forums I've had a look in are generally pretty dead. FB seems to be where its at now but finding a good group is a bit of a mission, quite a few are setup just to be a selling platform for one breeder.

  • I've been using this one for few years. Seem like a good bunch, very helpful and have bought livestock from a few members from time to time.

  • Thanks all. Yes I've noticed not much activity on forums and their classifies. It's a shame, because they create very close knit communities and the selling/buying is a substantially cheaper than fish shops.

  • People in my area made a fish group on Facebook which I joined but it's not very active with only a couple of posts a month. Maybe they are better in metro areas than regional though?

Random people also sell their fish on Facebook in some of the Buy/Swap/Sell groups on Facebook too. I scored a bargain last year when someone sold me a too small overstocked tank that had 3 large Silver Sharks, 3 large bristle nosed catfish, and 10 Electric Yellows for $40 which all got rehomed in my large tank.

Yeah I am not on Facebook lol but I think maybe its time to join for this stuff. I am after some cichlids, either African or american I am not fussed but as long as they are pretty :)

Picked up a sailfin pleco yesterday around 8cms or so for $35 from an aquarium shop. Hes got a nice symmetrical patter on him so couldn't resist
