This include everything or just the tower

I recently built a pc and my tower cost me around 1800 total for a sff pc setup

    Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
hp compaq 8200 (these are everywhere)
i7 2600 / some proprietary mobo / some 240 watt psu (scariest part of the build imho but the saving was worth it)
    32gb ddr3 ram
    gtx 1050ti low profile
8tb seagate hdd (amazon US sale)
2tb micron 11000 ssd (best value ssd full stop I should have just bought a 1tb of this extra instead of the samsung but a little part of me wanted to be fancy go figure)
500gb samsung evo 850 (my best choice and also best regret of the build.. hdd is fine for poor people honestly an extra 20 seconds is nothing to the unemployed)
dvd drive (just so I can put in a movie or old game anytime I want since I am also a bit of a retro gamer or patient gamer)
wifi card (builder fudged me on this one.. was hoping to get ac just got n… have to replace in future if I want to do pc to android or tv streaming down the line later)
$1580 total including shippping (rushed it a bit and my builder stuffed up some of the items bought i.e didnt listen to my experienced sales advice so paid about 200-300 extra overall and he didnt even get me wifi ac for in home streaming brr anyways life is not perfect and it is here now could be a lot worser ah well)

$60 used 24 inch AOC 1080p 60 hz TN panel (best I could find that wasnt either too little or not 1080p or basically garbage, will keep eye out for cheap IPS panel 1080p 60 hz I cant tell the difference above 40 fps with my tired eyes these days as long as it aint stuttering it is fine)

Pony'd up for some rgb keyboard and mouse was roughly $30 each because I was a dumbass and rushed this also then spent more to pay the guy for coming all the way to me to give me a demonstration.. hindsight is 20/20 so I am telling you just buy the $40 packages keyboard and mouse and mat combo on ebay.. dont think about it just do it unless you dont want light at night only downside is the rgb doesnt fully turn off have to unplug it every night

Using some headphones for now that doesnt have a mic because it is iphone only go figure.. i bought the wrong ones anyways that is another story

Just need a mat and arm rest support now as my table is hard and punishing me for every minute i am using this

Overall was one hell of a project.. If I could do it all again I would skip ssd for a budget build unless you hardcore developing or editing and just go straight for a better gpu and cpu and case but honestly otherwise very proud for what I got and that it works and is now functioning.

Biggest thing to do now is just download my library of games which is the longest thing in the world to do when you have a monster collection of backlogs.

Will report back in 1 to 2 years time.. as some parts have warranty but honestly the most important ones dont (cpu, psu, motherboard, ram)

Wondering if anybody knows if my setup HP Compaq 8200 SFF PSU can be upgraded and thus my GPU can be upgraded with a 1070 mini or higher.

I feel like it can but remember reading some reviews saying the PSU cannot be changed or upgraded in these sff pre built systems but always open to change my mind.

I think it is off to whirlpool we go

That is one of the strangest builds I have ever seen. It seems insanely unbalanced (massive amounts of storage and RAM, stock SFF PSU, $60 monitor, no-name RBG keyboard/mouse, etc).

You can easily get a pre-built for that money with an i7 which is 5-6 generations newer, a better graphics card, a warranty, and generally more balanced.

      • +1

Yep haha could've grabbed the Dell 1060 deals and you got another $800 for the monitor, SSD etc

      • Yes, omg. 32GB of RAM with a 1050Ti Low profile? Why? And 8TB HDD + 2.5TB worth of SSDs. And that PSU! I say in almost every computer build thread, don't cheap out on the PSU. =( I feel bad for AlienC now.

For comparison, I got a Ryzen 2600 + 1060 6GB + 16GB RAM + 500GB SSD (970 Evo) mITX build (with wifi no less) for about the same price, with a $140 case (honestly too expensive) and a 450W 80Plus Gold PSU too.

    • +7

You spent like 70% of your build on hard drives and ssds got an average graphics card and then went cheap on power supply , motherboard, monitor keyboard and mouse .

    • +2

Please downvote this build, it's terrible.

      • -6

I call it the development/light gaming/heavy storage/mass multitasking build definitely niche and could be considered terrible but it is budget which is what I was aiming for and also went low spec so that I have a mainstream testbench for my game all in one.. basically so I can see what the majority or target market of esports gamers might be running.. I could have easily upgraded to a 1070 minimum if I wanted to but then I would have to sacrifice some ram and storage and maybe even use a new case which would destroy the budget ness of this build.. by all means it is a mass storage/test experiment development pc first and foremost with gaming put aside to mainly play the same with the "masses"

Some call me crazy I just call myself Al. Very weird I know but I like it it is quite cute and it is all mine. My next project if I decide to complete another one will be a high end gpu high end single core king aka 8700K or equivalent ultra sff monster with probably less storage but still same amount of RAM. it will be my "shoebox" build with monster specs in tiny proportion with the ultimate use case scenario of being super ultra portable aka I can take it with me in my bag to places and do stuff out of it while this budget dev build will be my main workhorse.. I actually wanted to put more ram because I love to multitask and have stuff running all the time but time constraint and budget didn't allow me to.. maybe in future who knows we shall see

I didn't go for a webcam or mic headset as I have some tablets and mobile for that but I am thinking I should have maybe picked up a cheapie.. but then again google is always watching oh hai mark - zucc off

        • +3

It might be yours for your 'niche' use but that doesn't make it a "Best Gaming PC under $2000" in the slightest. It's a terrible mishmash of low end parts hence the downvotes. You can build something far far far superior for the same money.

    • +2

Like others have said very, very odd build.

Your spread of components looks very useful for storage and rendering of (very) large quantities of video footage.

I think describing this as either a budget or gaming build is very misleading, so a disclaimer might be useful.

You were right in your thinking about CPU choice as older generations are just fine, but a second generation i7? You've severely limited your options here, as there will be a partial bottleneck when you upgrade the GPU (which takes some achievement), so i'd recommend OP choose a slightly newer model with a "k" prefix (essentially meaning it can be over clocked).

I am not sure if the PSU can be changed in your current setup, which would suggest you should probably start the build from scratch using basic PC case; its going to be a lot easier to work with in the long run, and you're going to have more options if you want to upgrade in the future.

Overall I wish you goodluck in your build, but as a rule of thumb 90% of games will be bottlenecked by the GPU, so that is where you want to be spending your money.

Now the Crypto boom is slowing down, GPU prices have really began to drop in price. We are also looking at getting the 11k Nvidia line, which looks to boast some impressive numbers. The GTX1170 (the mid range card) is supposed to outperform the GTX1080TI by a slight margin for a fraction of the price!

      • -1

Times are looking good I am honestly super happy with this build but the competitive gamer in me always wants more but honestly I am super happy.. this will last me a long time if not forever until we need 8k monitors and stuff haha and we are barely breaking 4k now as it is.

        • +2

You're just trolling now. Stop it. That setup with GTX 1050Ti couldn’t possibly do 4K gaming and there’s actually plenty of 4K supported games today. You should check your "monster" collection and see how many support it.

        • @Hybroid: I mean yes it is supported but not every game has it and not everybody has it only the super elite still at this point it is still quite expensive to get into and 1080p is the best spot for any gaming nowadays and looks great and prices just keep coming down can't say the same about 4k though but well 5 to 10 years time it will be the same story but with 4k and whatever k that will be the early adopter standard to reach for high quality epeen status.

I am a simple gamer I honestly just love my old games so stuff like rise of nations, age of empires, unreal tournament even and casual esports game run fine in 4k on this machine.. csgo probably would also and I know how to balance the load within my means. 4k is beautiful but honestly sometimes can't tell the difference between 4k and 1k it is just not much difference tbh unless you watch a youtube video but gaming it is tough to tell because 1080p looks so brilliant already.

        • @AlienC: 4K is most certainly mainstream and not "elite". Most new TVs in shops are 4K. Monitors are released in 4K specs and prices falling. Even game consoles are now 4K compatible. Blurays are available in 4K. You can even get 4K mobile phones. Cameras all shoot in 4K whether GoPro, point and shoot, DSLRs or even smartphones.

It's actually pretty common and there's a HUGE difference to 1080p especially for gaming so not sure where you get this from.

Regardless, your money could have been much better spent on a much superior machine but hey, it's up to you. If you're happy then that's all that matters. Have fun.

        • @Hybroid: Nope. Link me a 4K mobile lol and a 4K monitor below $400.

    • Not under $2000

  • +6

    Easy.
    RAM: 16GB DDR4
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 (this is plenty for 60fps fortnight and is a great, future proof CPU)
Mobo: Any b350 will do. This socket is supported until 2020 at the earliest.
GPU: GTX 1080 TI - this is where most of the money will go. It's the only way to get ~60fps at 4k. A 1080 would get 40-50fps and a Vega64 about 50-55.
PSU: Your favorite brand, 700w, around $120. Don't skimp on it :)

    • +1

      Good build.

RE motherboard Anyone getting a 3XX chipset (so B350, X370, etc) motherboard - get the seller to flash the motherboard to newest Bios, otherwise it won't recognize Ryzen 2nd Gen CPUs (so any 2XXX chip).

Decent, but I'd be aware of the following:

      1. You motherboard will need to have its bios flashed by the seller (you don't want to try that yourself) to fit the 2600.

      2. Try to get a single set of 2 x 8 GB RAM if possible. It's (very) uncommon these days, but you might run into RAM compatibility issues by mixing two individual sticks, even if they're identical. AMD CPUs are still a bit more sensitive to RAM issues compared to Intel. (Also, while I also have 2400Mhz RAM with a R5 2600, you might want to go faster if your budget allows).

      3. Check if the CPU cooler fits inside the case and doesn't impact anything else. MATX isn't that small, but just double check. (Also - the stock cooler is fine if you're not looking to overclock, something to consider as well and save some bucks to put elsewhere).

      4. If your case can fit a full-size 1080Ti, go for that. It's a very hot card to begin with, so in mini-form factor and inside a mATX case you're going to get really high temps if you use it to its limit.

      5. Bit of a personal nitpick/QOL comment: Your PSU is perfectly fine, but it's not fully modular and you're already building inside a mATX case with less room to move around, so see if there's a fully modular PSU with the same price/efficiency/quality. This is only convenience though, so I certainly wouldn't sacrifice quality, wattage or efficiency for this.

I build my first pc about 2 week ago.the part for the tower cost me about $1900. It’s a ryzen build which to me Seems like the best bang for the buck compared to an intel system. Mind you I got most of the part for under RRP through the ebay sales found on this site. It varies depend on the people but the experience building a pc was too good for me vs buying a prebuilt one. Plus you get to know which part is in your system.

    • Hey man, I'm planning to build a computer soon too as it'll save me more money. With these ones you bought, I've checked that they are below RRP. Do yoyu just buy the things you need when they are on sale instead of one go? And is it hard to build a computer?

      • +1

Buy parts from shops that suit you for price and location/delivery charges etc. It's very easy to build a computer, almost plug and play Lego. The hard part is making the wiring look pretty depending which case you go for.

      • +1

I got most of my part during the eBay sales when eBay plus first came out so that saved me a lot on delivery fee. This was my first build and Building the computer took like 5 hr. Mind you 2 hour was spent tinkering with the water cooler if you go with an air cooler everything else should be a breeze

P.s I got 80% of my part from computer alliance during their 1st 15% off sale (they’re having one right now) Their price is fair and the delivery is quick as

  • Thanks Everyone I have settled on this for now based on feedback https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/nippa2/saved/#view=9W4q4D
I am overbudget but maybe if I wait a month given the ne GTX 1180 coming out I

Sweeeeeet. That's a kickass build. Yeah - I'm kinda annoyed at building a system and then having all the 11-series GPU rumours coming out literally within the same week.

One last thing to note - your SSD is M.2 SATA3 and not NVMe. You won't see any major real world differences in gaming or general productivity, but as it seems you're going for the best (you upped to a Ryzen 7 after all), thought you'd want to know.

Read this review for details, but note that SSD performance only affect basically loading times (for boot-up and in games) and will be at most a few seconds slower:

      https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/crucial_mx500_1tb_m_2_…

The benchmarks really only matter if you're working with huge files (literally loading multiple GBs at once kind of work), so do view them in that context.

      • I seen the Ryzen spec sheet of 65 watts TPD so assumed less money, heat ,sound to run it.
I have changed to a NVME
        Thanks

  • I know I can’t get 4K… but I just upgraded over the course of the last year or so….

    i7 3370 -$120. 16gb DDR3 1600 $90. RX5808GB $335.

    Pretty powerful machine. Not $2000.

  • Thanks Robertouno
I went to the computer alliance ebays site got the 15% off (ends today)
    I got CPU for $330.65!
also got fan, case and motherboard from them.
I will also try with not using the water cooled CPU
Computer Alliance said they would flash motherboard also

It was also free Ebay plus delivery

    Total $553.35
