Looking to Buy a New MacBook Pro

I’m wondering, what would be the cheapest way to buy a new MacBook Pro, would it just be through the apple store with the student discount and cash back? Or is there a better way

that's too complex for an apple user

  • Call officeworks for a price match on the JB Hifi 10% off. If those configurations don’t suit you then I would say your suggested method for BTO orders is the best way to go.

    • How often does jbhifi do 10% off?

      • Sorry, I thought it was still running, but looks like you just missed it.

  • I think JB has the 10% off macs fairly often. You just missed out on one that ended yesterday. I purchased a new Macbook pro direct from the Apple store yesterday which I got them to price match JB who were out of stock locally. The student discount isn't quite as good as the 10% off as far as I know. Officeworks wouldn't price beat as they were out of stock until 8th August.

  • There are cheaper ways than JB if you’re a student. PM me which uni and I’ll try to send you in the right direction.

    • Hi, would you mind letting me know where you know of that us cheaper for students? I am at Melbourne uni. Thanks!

I just bought an MBP 15" mid 2014 with Retina display, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, 2GB VRAM for $1300. I think that's better than buying new.

    • Where did you get this from? Used?

Before buying I suggest you try one out in an Apple Store because the new keyboards are terrible compared to the previous design.

    • Agree

    • are they completely different? I just saw that they have added that touch bar on the top of the keyboard.

      • It's more about the internal switches used under the keys that makes most of the difference. I haven't used the new design, so can't speak either way, but the new design has been divisive, to say the least.

  • The misses said she saw one on Kogan for around 3200$… can anyone confirm this? It. Was few weeks back. 512 one 2018 MacBook Pro. I'm having my doubts.
I'm in the market for one but have to buy from hardly normal due to having gift cards via Amex promos.

  • My advice would be to look at older MBP’s. I bought one of the 2017 models and I regret it cause it’s sort of a PITB as without SD, and USB, I can’t easily connect peripherals. Also, note that I read there were some issues with the newer models and heat sink issues?

That’s just my thoughts, of course each to their own.

it's been fixed with a software update

  • For anyone out there i just got a 2018 MBP 15 inch 512gb for $3437.58 with Office works doing a price beat on iFrog. RRP $4099. Huge saving for an apple product!

  • I dont know about you, even with student discounts, its still cost quite a bit. refurb units and second hand units if you a bit tech savvy, you could nab a very cheap older generation mbp and replace the hdd with a ssd and its all good. except for case design and weight if that is something of a concern.
