Worried about purchases from eBay - PC Byte and SydneyTech - this is what companies apparently do...

Hi everyone,

I need some thoughts and directions on a couple of purchases I made on the recent ebay 20% off sale. I like to be very cautious and careful but this also leads to overthinking…
I feel more and more companies on ebay are starting to become less trustworthy and its chomping up my time by chasing their shit up(prob to save them money)

I'll start with my purchase from PC Byte-
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/i7-8700K-4-7GHz-2TB-500GB-NVMe-S…

Bought on the 18.7.18 - This was supposed to be delivered by 23.7.18. On 24.7.18 I emailed, they responded "still getting parts together so it will take another 3-6 days" ok fair enough :)

27.7.18 pc byte sends me a tracking number. Yay I think - new delivery date set to 30.7.18. Huh, no parcel… its got to come tomorrow, surely, its express post!!!
…31.7.18 - 10am - no updates on tracking, wtf!!!? ok, called post office. Young fella answered, give it to 1pm then call back and we can lodge an investigation.
1pm hits - ring ring goes the post office phone. Young lady answers, Hello there. Explanation begins.. Lady explained to me something like its what some companies do, they scan their product in even though it hasn't left their warehouse. A big box of orders basically gets scanned in so up pops a tracking reference point for multiple orders but doesn't go anywhere until later date. Company looks good, cause obviously "They have sent it" which in fact they haven't. At which point I confirmed with the post office lady to say that aus post actually have not collected yet and dont get them to blame us.
So I called pc byte up and said to one of the workers whats going on. He said I'll have to get someone to call you back, the person is on break.
4:30 hits , no call. I call them back. The guy says oh sorry I didn't call you back and I will have to lodge an investigation with the post office… right.. Who do I trust? Well at this stage im more inclined with the post office.

Some thoughts I had to why this happens.
1) Do they sell items on ebay misguiding customers on delivery as parts come from overseas/and or are second hand to make more sales, cause of course i'd be less inclined to buy if I knew I had to wait 2-4 - 6 weeks….

2)One negative review by another user on ebay stated "Late delivery, PC components not as advertised (inferior models), Paypal dispute" for the exact same system i'm buying… so I got worried there!!
3)Is there away to check if the parts are used or new? is there a model number that states date of creation or how many times its been run or something like that? If I took it to a tech guy, would they know more then me?

I am just starting to worry as a lot of red flags are popping up. I read that Pc byte was under new management from around July 2017.
I noticed 68 negative comments in the last month alone compared to their 146 in the past 12 months…..
I decided to buy as a lot of ozbargain community stated they have a solid rep.

For sydneytech I bought the acer monitor
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Acer-Predator-XB271HU-27-inc…

Delivery said by the latest 26.7.18 - I emailed the guy and he said on the 26.7.18 - We have organised a dropship directly from our supplier to you. We are asking the tracking number for the dropship. It was shipped from Perth and the ETA is today. So I responded with "I haven't got it, why?"

He goes "Do you receive any collection card? The parcel request a signature on delivery, so if no one at home, it would be re-directed to the depot for pick-up"
I go " someones home all day, every day" " Can I grab the tracking number"
He goes" Please be aware we have up to 30 days handling time for this model as stated on the listing. I don't have a tracking number for your order yet"
I go " Alright, thank you for your time. I should be getting it within early next week though if the eta was for yesterday ? And you did say you requested a tracking number right?"
he goes on 30.7.18 " Yes, we have. We'll update you as soon as we find out."
I go O.O wtf is going on in my mind…. haven't responded since….

Hows other peoples experiences been on these companies? Have you got any thoughts for me?

  • The pc.byte order - what does it say when you put the tracking number in Aust post tracking site? The status' description tells you whether the parcel has been picked or if lodgement has occurred. If it hasnt been picked up then it's obviously still with pc.byte.

Stores usually generate a shipping label when they have all the shipping details and Australia Post will come collect it when it's ready. It could be sitting there for a while until it's ready for collection.

Why's the tracking information in funny order?

The entries above make it pretty clear that it's with Australia Post.

        • I dont know, i thought it strange too… i thought it was with aus post but the way the lady explained to me, it wasn't and my gut sense is that its accurate. All the negative comments on ebay about this seller atm with delivery times has sky rocketed in the past month..

        • Also does auspost actually pick up from senders at this late?? i doubt so?

          @Calmerancer:
That time is actually pretty normal for pickup. I've seen many of the parcels I order get picked up around that time.

Shipping information received by Australia Post

For future reference, this status means that the shipping information has been input into the Aust Post system to generate the shipping label, but the item is still with the seller.

      • According to tracking above, the item was picked up by AusPost 4 days after item was booked for pickup

  • tl;dr

Bought item from eBay store pcbyte and sydmeytech, item were not received by die dates, auspost doesn't care, so what should I do now..bikies or acc or suck it up?

  • I had exact thing happen to me with PC byte desktop. The day after Second picked up from sender scan I got it.

hope you paid through paypal just in case :)

  • Ok, so i bought a bunch of sd memory cards, they were split into 2 orders, one came on time, the much more expensive order, the other one said it was sent, but then actually sent 10 days later, and received the next day.

So when they have no stock, they create the mail order, with a reference, so they can put its been sent in ebay, as they are required to send it within a certain time frame, but they do not send it, then when you contact them, they come up with an excuse then send it soon after.

I didnt worry about it, since i got it eventually, but there you go.

Seems to be the way to get around the ebay mail timeframe, and nothing you can do about it pretty much.

We should be notifying eBay… The more reports they get the more they'll take it seriously.

You're a millennial aren't you? You ordered so expect it the next day, and the slightest delay has you on the edge of your seat.

    Stop overthinking.

i don't mind it takes longer. I mind when they bs to your face…

Again, it happens. Life lesson - forum posts don't cure these problems, but at least 1 problem could've been predicted:

        As for sydneytech

Usually sent within 20 business days after receipt of cleared payment.

        So yes, they're drop-shipping.

Be patient. Stop hassling the shop and the post office prematurely. You're giving people extra work and making them more busy. Chill for a while. Trust in the system a little longer.

eBay are partly to blame for situations like this as the moment a tracking number appears against an order, their system marks the item(s) as being shipped even if all that's happened is a shipping label has been created, and so the buyer receives a notification that the item has been sent.

It's a stupid thing for them to do, given that the presence of a tracking number means their system can actually see whether an item has been scanned in by the carrier or not, and is no doubt a deliberate decision to give the impression that the order is moving forward.

Situations like this illustrate the stupidity of this practice, but stupid is proving to be eBay's forte of late.

    • Yeah they need to change it to only be valid once it's been scanned…

Or just display 'Pending' as Australia Post does for an unscanned tracking number.

Yer, it would make more sense. I got my desktop tower on the Thursday. Looks amazing but cant really test it out until i get my screen which i think will take another 10-20 days. It was nice of PC byte to send all the packaging of the parts they installed. They have done decent in my opinion but communication definitely needs to be addressed a little more.

  • Bit of an update :) Got my screen on the 10th of August. I must say, both products were definitely worth the wait. Very happy with the desktop and the screen is amazing for quality.

  • Hey guys. I used to buy from PC Byte with absolutely no problems and extremely fast delivery. If you need the item even faster, you can pick up from their warehouse. However I have realised eBay haven't been promoting PC Byte lately. Maybe they had too many problems. No more 20% off :((
