Till you include zero excess insurance, it then comes to $40++ per day.
Use Tripcover to cover the insurance excess. Approx $10 per day. Voted as best/cheapest rental car insurance by Choice magazine.

Most don't cover domestic rentals? (or at least the few I've had don't)
I've also seen some dodgy wording in credit-card insurance PDS - words to the effect of they will only cover you for any expenses after you have already taken reasonable insurance out. So if there's a gap they would cover it, but there was no confidence that it would be covered if you didn't already have insurance.
A lot will only cover up to $2,250 which may not be enough. Tripcover give you some options here.
@cyssero: not just reasonable, some only cover you if you have taken the maximum excess reduction offered.
I use ANZ rewards platinum. Never had to make a claim, but seems ok.
