Travel Insurance - Comprehensive

Hello fellow Ozbargainers,

I am about to head to Spain for the Camino for 6 weeks. I need to organise travel insurance for myself. I was doing a quick search but haven't found anything suitable.

I require multi-trip travel insurance for 12months. Would like it to be as comprehensive as possible, including unlimited cover on most things such as medical etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations from their experience?

Thank you in advance.

Covermore and 1cover are both good.

Have you got a platinum credit card ?

You have to look into the T&Cs for the platinum card coverage. I think the personal travel insurance is all good, if you paid for the trip with your card.

Cos i have a weird example where you can get caught out. With the car hire excess reduction, you needed to have paid of the FLIGHTS to your destination, but not actually the car hire itself, with your platinum card. So because i'd paid for my Jetstar flights with BPAY but the hire car with my Platinum Card, i actually was NOT eligible for the excess reduction . Which is extremely counter intuitive!

They may require that say 50% of your entire trip (including hotels, flights, etc) is paid on that credit card, so best to give them a ring if you wanna do this option

    • I did have the Amex Platinum Edge, but have cancelled it, which unfortunately left me without insurance as I paid for my Spain trip on that card!

Covermore was what I have used in the past as advised by travel agents.

      • Why did you cancel it?

I used to use QBE $270 P.A max was either 60 or 90 day max cover per tour. Now use Citi C/C to book flights free and longer cover up to 6 months.

I used Insure and Go for mine when we went Japan.
Honestly, I just used Cannex to pick mine

Southern Cross Travel Insurance is highly rated by CANSTAR. Recently bought travel insurance from them but have not experienced making any claims but based on user reviews, sounds to be better than the rest.

World2Cover provides multi-city, annual travel insurance. Last time, I think I paid 290+ for annual, multi-location travel insurance.

Edit: quickly checked and its 269.50 for 30 days per country

    • Yep…had a look at all the suggestions and all the prices are more or less on par with each other. It all comes down to the fine print and any additional 'extras' such as car hire, snow gear, more than 30 day stays etc.
