What Happens if You Don't Renew Your Mobile Plan?

If you have a sim with a number (e.g. Amaysim prepaid plan with auto-renew turned off) after the period of the plan, can you still keep the number and recieve texts and calls though I know you can't send texts or calls.

Yes, but not indefinitely, also depends on the carrier.

Telstra used to deactivate accounts after about 6 months from memory, im guessing youve got about the same time with most carriers.

Each provider is different. You will need to ask yours to find out. For examples,

    • amaysim's fixed price prepaid plans turn into Pay As You Go prepaid with 1 year credit validity. For each top up, the credit lasts an additional year and you can make and receive calls & text. If you don't top up then you can only receive calls & text but not make them, and the number will be cancelled 90 days after the 1 year period. See amaysim General Terms & Conditions 10.3.1

    • With Kogan, if you do not recharge your account after your plan expires, you will still be able to receive incoming calls and text messages for 20 days, and make calls to emergency services for 90 days. Your mobile phone number will be reserved for 90 days past plan expiry. If you do not recharge within 90 days, you will not be able to keep your existing mobile phone number, and your account will be deactivated.

  • Yes, for about a year from when you last recharged. If you want to keep it for another year, recharge with $10 (pay as you go).
