Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro - Where to buy?

Any good deals going around? Also, where is the recommended place to buy these phones? This is going to be the first android phone I will be buying - so help me out here :)

Planning to run LineageOS on it, anyone here running it?

Cheers

  • Bought mine off gearbest about 2 months ago. Really good phone would recommend getting the 4/64 model.Im running AOSIP on it and its great but keep in mind you have to wait 15 days to unlock and root it. Also make sure you don't update it when you get it because the new MIUI versions have antirollback.

    • Awesome, thanks for the heads up. Glad that you enjoying your new phone!

  • The Redmi Note 5 (not Pro) is a better phone. The Pro's cameras aren't quite as good. The Pro model is the India version.

    • Really? Could you please elaborate? Is it only the camera that's better?

      • There's a few youtube videos around. Specifications are slightly different with supported network bands (no band 7 if I remember right). Rear camera sensors were different, Indian variant lacked OIS IIRC?
Last time I check, it wasn't easy to find a Redmi Note 5 Pro either, as most resellers are Chinese based, and sell Chinese stock.

The naming is so confusing there's actually 3 different models. The redmi note 5 with a snapdragon 625,the redmi note 5 pro with a snapdragon 636 and the redmi note 5 (called sometimes called redmi note 5 AI) with a snapdragon 636. The one you're talking about is the redmi note 5 AI which does have a better camera than the pro. However both the AI and the pro have the same codename (whyred) and you can install the same custom ROMs on both. Gearbest sells the redmi note 5 AI but its just called the redmi note 5 on their site.

      • Thanks for the awesome feedback. Really helped!

Bought this from Aliexpress yesterday: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-5…

        Should be the right one?

        • And would Telstra LTE work on this?

        • Yeah that looks like the right one, haven't tried it on Telstra but I'd imagine you should be fine although it doesnt support band28 so you might not get as good LTE coverage as other phones.

Let me know if you need help unlocking/installing stock android

        • @afaik:and remember don't let the phone update when you get it, it'll cause all kinds of headaches

        • @joungs:

Cheers man, really appreciate it - I should receive my phone within 1-2 weeks.
