Good luck getting that and the controllers/lighthouses for less than double this.

      EDIT: Vive Pro is 1200, 2. controllers 400, 2x lighthouses 400. $2000 total.

I did a bit of research before opting in and most tech YouTubers (Linus etc) thought that although the screen is pretty af they preferred the comfort of the original

If you think the Vive Pro is the only way to go you obviously don't want to enjoy VR.

  • Why are VR things so expensive over here?

Oculus sells the Rift bundle for A$599 delivered, which at current FX is only A$40 / 10% over their US list price of US$399.

There are far worst examples of Australia tax, IMHO.

If my Rift spontaneously disappeared, I would not think twice before buying a new one at the current price.

      • It is more than 2 years old. New version is coming soon?

        • Isn't the vive pro the upgrade already released?

I think the OP got lucky with the pricematch… Company looks like they're based out of New Zealand.

I've had pricematch attempts blocked for similar reasons.

I was in an Officeworks a week or so back and I had a bit of a eavesdrop on a pricematch… they were pricematching a phone to another store where clearly it wasn't right. The buyer got lucky as most of the staff were swamped and the appeared the buyer was conveniently in a hurry.

I think it was a case of the phone being locked and being sold unlocked by the store and still having network branding on it and not being available nowhere remotely nearby.

So I'd say if they had the time they would have picked that up initially not afterwards

    • Officeworks employee here: this is true, technically we can't price match non Australian sellers.

You can still try your luck though, OP got it matched.

  • VIVE came up twice around $700, I suggest wait.

  • Please be aware that the model that office works sell is the old "99HAHZ048-00" version which is 15% heavier then the current version. I called up for a price match only to be told the one listed is part number "99HALN006-00" (which is what most retailers are selling as the older version should be discontinued).

I went through alot of trouble researching to figure out whats the difference and finally got an answer by going on HTC live chat multiple times as most said they had no clue what the difference was until i got lucky with a guy that knew exactly what the difference was on the 3rd shot.

Hope this helps some people :)

    • This actually makes a lot of sense. I just bought a Vive only a couple weeks ago and it was much lighter than I was expecting. I bought it for sim racing and most of the guys on the forums suggest an Occulus because they are lighter but I have no complaints with the weight of my Vive at all.
