Fine from Italian Police

So last year I was traveling around Europe and while in Italy I hired a motorbike for a day. I apparently inccured a fine for driving in a bus zone, although I had no idea at the time as most of the signs are in italian. I just received the fine in the mail, but it isn't very clear on how much the fine is or how to even pay it.

My question is what's the worst that can happen if I don't pay it? I have no intention of ever going back to Italy either. The fine is about €90 I think.

EDIT: As per the vote, I have decided not to pay it.

Send them a fine for WW2. Case closed.

    • plz educate me

      i dont get it

  • This happened to me, except it was a parking fine I got in Luca, unexpectedly. You don't have to pay it. They'll try to chase it down via email and through debt collectors. Just ignore it. I did some research online and basically this is classed as an administrative infringement. After I think 5 years or so the fine gets cleared. Also, I went back to Italy a couple of years after I got the fine and there were no issues from customs or the likes. Do some research, there is a legal clause you can use to get out of it and reply to their email saying if you don't hear back by a certain date you'll consider it waived.

  • With the number of people who say they or someone they knew got a fine driving in Italy, I think the lesson is never hire a car in Italy.

  • I'm at the debt collectors point after less than one year… Thanks for easing my mind heheh… Yeah parked somewhere and apparently it was not Ok - Rental gave the details but did not charge me anything. I'll update the post from jail if that happens.. They'll have to fly me to Italy first tho lol… that's a bit more than EUR90 ain't it

OAKS - peace man, keep us updated and send photos from jail!
