Student Exchange in France - Pre Paid SIM

Hello,

My daughter is going to France on exchange for 3 months. Can anyone recommend an overseas (France specific?) prepaid SIM plan she can use while there please? She will need to make calls inside France, and send texts. Some data would be necessary so she can use Skype to contact family here.

Thank you.

  • Never did this but there is a Wiki on SIMs in various countries. Here's the France page: http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/France

  • Orange mobile in France is a good option.

Is she doing a university or high school exchange ?

    • Thank you. It's a high school exchange.

      • Ask your daughter to ask her host family who’d they’d recommend.

There are some cheaper providers (eg what belong is to Telstra). I forget their names. It will probably have to be organised from France. Maybe see if her host sister/brother can order her a sim and she can pay them back. That way it’ll be ready to go. France is still quite funny with non residents getting sims.

Get your daughter to find out if the host family has decent internet so you can Skype. I burn through internet really quickly overseas. Just looking up google maps, etc can use more than you think so keep that in mind.

  • Have a look at:

Your daughter's host family are probably best placed to confirm this information and provide further inputs.
The family will also most likely have a home internet, as will most cafes etc., so the data requirement may be lower than you think.

Consider using WhatsApp rather than Skype; we find it much easier and more reliable.

  • Thank you everyone for your comments. All were constructive and very helpful. I'll start with getting my daughter to contact her host family.
