How do you reformat a netbook?

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to ask this, and I didn't want to have to sign up to a new forum, but I figured that a few people on here would know the answer.

Bascially, I have owned a few computers in the past, desktops, notebooks, etc. and after a while of use I have found that they slow down, become clogged with junk etc. So stick the Windows installation CD/DVD in, or the laptop recovery CD with Windows on it, and away we go, reformat the harddrive, new install of Windows, fresh computer.

How do you achieve this with a netbook? I purchased one of those emachines EM350 from the start of this year, and it is something that has worried me, that I would not be able to do when the time comes, especially if you need to prepare it before it actually stuffs up.

Cheers guys!

OR alternatively invest in a external CD Drive, pretty useful

Agreed, money well spent (not much nowadays) for any netbook owner IMHO! :)

  • there is a few programs around which you can load all the necessary file onto a usb and use that to load windows.

obviously you need access to a pc with a disc drive a spare usb stick and a windows disc to make the usb stick a bootable windows disc

    makes it much faster aswell

    • this is what i thought, so basically i need to DL a program onto a separate computer, create a bootable disk from a USB stick, using this program, and a windows CD

my netbook did not come with a CD or anything, is it still possible to install windows 7 on the netbook without me owning a windows cd? can i download it from microsoft to then register later once it is installed?

      • Use wintoflash to put it on a usb drive, very easy to use.

Some people say as long as you own the product key, it's ok to download from torrents, but some still think it's illegal. It's a grey area.

You can't download it from the microsoft website.

  • With the EM350, you just use the inbuilt recovery application. It's in the Start Menu under "emachines". Information on how is in the instruction manual (also in that Start Menu folder)

  • All Acer laptops have an eRecovery Management application buried in the start menu. You use that to re-image the HDD and restore it to the factory default condition.

Not sure if it applies for eMachines, it could be a different name.

  • hammer.
