EB Games Premium Refurbished Consoles?

Has anyone ordered a EB Games Premium Refurbished Console, is there any marks on it?
Why do they call some Premium and some without?

Are you talking about the Wii U? If so, it's because there's a Basic (White - 8GB) and a Premium (Black - 32GB) console.

  • EB's "refurbished" consoles are just used units they've (maybe) factory reset and wiped down with a damp cloth. Just… fyi.

    • Yeah, they're from trade-ins by the general public.
Not like other refurbs where the product has new parts or the packaging was damaged.

      • Yup. And (just personally) I tend to read "refurbished" as "factory refurbished", because I don't understand how any random third party is really capable of 'refurbishing' any product themselves in a way that a buyer can't themselves.

    • That's kind of what we wan't right?
Don't exactly want EB Games to do a RRoD repair or open up a console and clean it before I buy it.

      • No, I'd prefer the unit went back to the factory, was fixed/repaired, then QA'd by the factory, and then sold as a refurbished unit.

I mean - there's really nothing EB staff can do that I can't, so to call these "refurbished" units is to me a (little) misleading when they're more correctly just "used" goods.

        • True. It would be better if they called it factory reset and/or "tested".

I assume you're aware of the EB Games change of mind policy and how the games are sold as new.

What are your thoughts about buying Nintendo Switch cartridge games from EB, now that we know they all have a unique certificate, that they can be dumpped/loaded with SX OS, and that Nintendo can ban consoles/accounts if a certificate is used on 2 different consoles concurrently?

I can't see myself ever purchasing a switch game from EB unless it's factory sealed.

        • @idonotknowwhy: I really only buy my games new, or borrow from friends. Or used very cheaply and certainly not from EB because I see no point in paying their steep mark-up for used goods. I actually haven't bought from EB for a lot of years now - they've been known to be fairly dodgy and expensive for a while.

I didn't know about the certificates though, and what EB might be doing, so add that to the pile of reasons I don't buy anything from EB I guess.

        • @idonotknowwhy:

Have you come across many factory sealed Switch games? I only have 3 games so far, but none of them have been sealed (bought from Amazon, Big W and JB).

  • I remember seeing they put decals on some of the preowned consoles and actually charge more than what they're worth new. Premium doesn't mean anything significant.

  • My brother works at a GameStop in the US (GameStop owns EB Games). According to him:

"refurbished is just cleaned and premium refurbished was broken and repaired"

  • I have traded a few consoles in my day at EB games (All of them work) but they have never even plugged them in to test them. So I have a funny feeling a lot of people would trade 'Non Working" or something not right with them consoles. So am not that keen on purchasing them at EB, I know Con Convertors plug them in and test everything before offering you a price, so would more then likely purchase a used on from cashies

  • Premium refurb can also mean it includes extra stuff like screen protector and earphones depending on what it is.
