Cool bag for doing stuff !

Hey All

Im on the hunt for a functional backpack and am reaching out to the creative community to compliment my research. My driving priviledges have been revoked and I've decided not to make a post on Ozbargain to determine how to get it back or fight the fine, but instead I'm looking for advice on a cool backpack to compliment my lifestyle for the next 6 months as I nut it out on public transport. What Im looking for is suggestions to compliment the following criteria. This is kind of a big deal for me as I have not caught public transport for over 8 years and Im guessing the backpack will play a major part in my comfort for 6 months.

Criteria

  • Backpack or easy to carry bag
  • Not a roller bag
  • Budget max $100-$150
  • Available for purchase within 3days
  • Few separate compartments for food and shoes
  • Mens style
  • Will carry the following

Umbrella, towel, shorts, shirt, jumper, runners, deoderant, lunch box, protein shake, water bottle, jacket, battery bank, misc charging cables, laptop.

Items that may not be carried regularly or concurrently and can potentially be fogone.

Laptop, jacket, jumper, towel, food supplies for storage in office.

Things Id like to be able to do with said backpack.

Jog for upto 2 kilometers with relative comfort, occasionally, however I can forgo this. Also look semi professional and not be carrying in a fluro red Kathmandu camping pack.

Thanks in advance legends !!

Can you substitute the no 'how to get out of a traffic fine' thread with an MS Painting of your ideal bag?

    • This idea really excited me, but the only problem is they are all after the incident sketches. So I will have to make an MS painting after I have purchased the bag to explain what I bought and how I wear it.

It's complement…unless you want a bag to say nice things about your lifestyle, given that bags are inanimate objects, probably not.

    • Your comment has been noted.

I use the upsized version of this (Rush 72) as my daily carry bag. I haul around about 13KG of gear every day without so much as a sore shoulder so that should say something. Although it is $170 which is just out of your range so maybe not for you.

    • Actually here it is for $150 on eBay with free shipping.

Other colours available but you can find them.

    • I really liked the look of this after having a quick squiz through their website, I'd consider spending a bit more if the bag is perfect. I would probably prefer a 24 as the 72 looks a bit large, but the major difference between the two is the 24 does not have the hip support which won't be beneficial when jogging.

Were you able to look at this in store anywhere before buying? I'd be carrying food every day and it's probably not a big deal but as a phobia I'd want to keep my shoes in a separate compartment to the food, so I'd want to get a gauge for size on the front and back compartments.

    "Also look semi professional"

    What does this even mean?

    • +5

      Slightly greater than amateur.

    • +1

Almost perfectly centered between professional and amateur with a slight professional skew

    Consider this.

    • Ill see if I can find one in person somewhere. It does look good. I cant guage the size in relation to a person though.

as I nut it out on public transport.

Please, keep that sort of activity in the privacy of your own home. We don't want to see a thread on OzB for "How do I fight an indecent exposure charge"! 😂😂😂

    • I won't stand up and keep it within the privacy of the seat height :)

I use a leather messenger bag. I'm told that it makes me look a bit gay, but that's not actually an issue for me. Navali bag I think it is, was $170 I think. But it's a big sheet of soft but thick leather, it's what gay cowboys must have worn on the Pony Express, I have no idea how it works all the bag sexuality stuff. Holds a 15 inch laptop, iPad, and lunch. Though it gets really heavy by that point and there's no handle only the straps, actually don't get a bag like that. Get one with a handle so it works like a little satchel too.

Messenger bags will kill your shoulder, plus look at the amount of stuff he wants to carry - that's multiple kg. He needs a backpack with a waist strap. Leather bags add a lot of weight too.

      • @austriabargain I'd agree with this comment as running or walking with a shoulder bag would absolutely kill over a long distance. I currently have a duffle bag with shoulder strap but I only use this for vehicle travel. The running part is important to me, because I will be catching public transport my trip home after work is longer and as a result I want to condense my time in the gym by running from station to gym so I'm already warmed up, subsequently I can be home at the same time as if I drove. Pedantic … I know.

You really really can't jog with a messenger bag.

  • high sierra - fulfils all your requirements.

    • Very nice, thanks ! I'll look into this. See if I can find one in a store to look at. The price is also pretty dam good, I like the others above but they would have to be significantly better to trump this at double the price.

I've got an older model that I've had for years.
High Sierra cop a lot of flack as they aren't as trendy as some of the mentioned above.
I've put mine through hell travelling 30+ countries with it, used it numerous times as an overnight bag/ weekend bag.
And I make it pull double duty for carrying my work laptop.

Also Strandbags have most brands if you want to check them out in person.
