Auspost Weird Parcel Bouncing from DHL International

I just was wondering where the logic is in this and if anyone has had similar experiences?

Estimated delivery date 6 Aug provided by DHL

AusPost gives me a tracking number on the 7th Aug coming from DHL HMB SERVICE CENTRE estimated delivery by Wednesday 08th Aug 2018*
It later changes to Friday 10th Aug 2018*

Below from newest first.

Processed through Australia Post facility, Thu 09 Aug • 02:25pm CHULLORA NSW
In transit Thu 09 Aug • 01:24am MELROSE PARK NSW
In transit Wed 08 Aug • 1:19pm CHATSWOOD NSW
Delayed in transit Wed 08 Aug • 1:09am POTTS HILL NSW
In transit Tue 07 Aug • 11:17am POTTS HILL NSW
Processed through Australia Post facility Mon 06 Aug • 08:46pm CHULLORA NSW
Shipping information received by Australia Post Mon 06 Aug • 04:06pm CHULLORA NSW

I'm just confused as to how it got around all these random places. What's even more concerning is that the destination was Chatswood which is there the original delivery date of the 8th. For some reason, it's now back at Chullora where it started??

Or am I just being paranoid and this is normal?? Bought from Amazon US on amazon.com.au
Also, why does DHL show it's been delivered to my address on the 6th?

Update: Shows as "it's coming today"

That hasn't stopped it from being in transit for Chullora to Chullora though lol (how is that even possible??)

Update 2: Delivered.

Just had a final bounce over to Macquarie Park before finally getting here.

  • Honestly, call up Australia Post and ask. Their system is kind of messy at the best of times and added to that, it's also not always 100% accurate. Talk to a real person, see if they can track down your parcel, and if it is bouncing around for one reason or another, maybe you can resolve that on the phone instead of waiting longer.

    • I've already contacted Chatswood Post Office and they claim that this is "normal" and they can't do anything "because the parcel isn't there"

AusPost Chullora I've contacted as well which they can't do anything because "it's en route to it's destination" which it doesn't seem like it is.

  • Not gonna reply directly (so you can still edit the comment) but I think you accidentally many words there lol.

    • Yeah thanks for that. Damn Android Pie - the collapse keyboard (back arrow) is now super sensitive and my hand brushes it sometimes while typing.

  • That's normal with DHL. It would be with the driver by the look of it. And also, their drivers like to take any newly arrived items for sightseeimg trips.

    • The thing is its not with DHL anymore..
Mind you that it did go on a sightseeing trip around beforehand but it delivered on the 6th (apparently) and now it's in AusPost's hands.

A bonus from AP with an extended period of round trips? :p

Happen to me once. The delay drives me crazy.

Just wait for tomorrow and see the latest status, if nothing happens, go to your local Post Office to sort it.

Hope you get your item soon.

        • Thanks, it says "it's coming today" so hopefully it is

How does something manage to be in transit from Chullora to Chullora though? So confused haha

        • @pennypincher98: just ring amazon when it doesnt come, they rang toll and beat them around the head till they admitted to leaving my parcel in the carport visible from the road…

Point being they actually chase them up for you.

        • @Seedy seed: yeah I'll see if it comes today and if it doesn't I'll definitely be contacting Amazon.
Between DHL + AusPost my package has just about visited half the world 😂😂

@pennypincher98: Machines not reading the barcode properly; currently have a redirected parcel which has been bouncing between Chullora and Villawood for three weeks now …

@kerfuffle: haha wow well at least I've got my parcel now despite it touching base at every suburb in Sydney haha
          What's AusPost doing lol

        • @pennypincher98: I think in this case, the redirect label wasn't applied correctly so it looks like there's two barcodes on it and the machines always scan the wrong barcode sigh

@kerfuffle: oh yeah that's probably right, makes sense sigh
          What a kerfuffle!

The tracking system is one of the few redeeming features of their archaic service.

In my experience the best - if not only way - to get any sort of intelligent reply is to log in to the auspost website and submit a "Missing item enquiry" via their "My Support" portal with the tracking number. If you do it right, your inquiry should show up in the tracking as a record.

They'll offer some pro-forma excuse about how they deal with thousands of parcels a day.

Getting in early with a complaint before the parcel goes too astray usually gets it turned around fairly quickly.
