Quickest port Vaya to Amaysim? (Best via Voda???)

What's the quickest way to port my number from my current Vaya $18 account to Amaysim $10/1GB postpaid?

I have a flight out tomorrow midday (Sunday) and only just realised Vaya is crap for Global Roaming.

So I want to transfer my number to Amaysim ASAP - mainly so that while I'm away I can receive sms verification codes from apps and purchases that require it.

I just bought a $10 Amaysim pack from Woolies so that I could have a sim, but I remember reading that transfer from Vaya to Amaysim is usually a screw up - in part because they are the same company and in part because they are both on Optus.

I want to go on the $10 per month 1GB Amaysim postpaid plan. I already have an open Amaysim account - I think from when @TA did some magic with cashrewards. But can't find that sim - it had another number too.

Suggestions? Too late to do it now? Port it directly?? Or will it go better if I take my number to a Vodafone sim first, and then to Amaysim???

HELP! and thx in advance…

I would get an ALDI SIM (on Telstra, so porting is normally very fast, but with useable credit for SMSing and calling until the next day), activate roaming and only port back to Amaysim upon your return. I don't have experience with Telstra directly, so I don't know if you can get the Day2Day $1 plan on the $2 starter pack, which might be even better?

The only catch is that ALDI strangely says to activate international roaming a week in advance, so you might be stuffed.

Anything to do with Optus (and even Telsta and Vodafone) might fail after 6 pm tonight.

Very smart thinking. Sadly I just checked and Aldi cover bugger all in Latin America - practically just Brazil.

But your great idea now has me looking at cheapest way to receive sms messages via Telstra - i.e. what's their lowest month-to-month contract plan. They should have the most comprehensive list of countries - given how much they charge! I looked prev at Voda's list too which wasn't great. (I guess I should check Telstra's Boost too.)

I got myself confused. Voda will work (or TPG). When I compared them before I was comparing their $5/day deal - not the lower level "can receive sms in x country".

So whereas I usually prefer Optus network range over Voda here in Aus for when we go camping, no reason not to ditch Optus for while I'm overseas. Thx again for redirecting my thinking down this route.

(Telstra too expensive - or their affordable prepaid has more limited country list.)

    • Thanks for the info! I had no idea that even Amaysim (who I'm with) only serves 50 countries for international roaming. Something to keep in mind.

  • Last time I ported to Amaysim it took the entire weekend to do (starting late Friday) and didn't actually fully ported until Monday morning.
