Shoes for Flat Footers

Hello Ozb community.

I am looking for some good shoes for my flat feet, I am standing at walking around at work all day so something comfortable and supporting is preferrable.

Anybody with flat feet have any recommendations?
I have looked at ultra boosts and Asics Gel Kanyo 24.
Please help.

I'm flat footed . Used to have my ankles roll alot .

    Also have back injury.

I find the asics Kayano very supportive and comfortable. They correct my 'gate' as I walk and also stop ankles from tending to roll.

I Have been using them about 2 or 3 years now.
Gone through about 6 pairs. Took 2 pairs back, due to a known fault/issue whereby the support part around the heel can wear through too fast. (If this happens, take it back to place of purchase with receipt and they should replace and return to manufacturer) .

MY physio highly recommends them . If you go into rebel sport (and I guess other places also) put the shoes on, get sales person to watch how you walk in them, to see how your 'gate' is etc, someone good with shoes should be able to tell if the shoes are good for you. Also physiotherapist should be able to do the same, if you see a physio at all.

My first pair, I bought them, and kept in nox and didn't wear until my next visit to physio, then had him assess things, before deciding to keep or return them.

    • where do u usually buy them from? rebel or is there somewhere cheaper?

      • Up and go had a deal, $10 rebel sports voucher with every 6pack of upNgo. I bought my last 2-3 pairs that way.
Before that, I waited till they were on sale at Rebel Sports.
I think the best I have seen them is $180-$200 (down from $250) . So anything $200 or less I would consider a 'bargain'.
I used to only buy very cheap shoes, as I thought that the expensive ones were a ripoff .
The Asics Kayano last much much longer than when I would buy the cheap shoes though, so the value is OK considering how long they last
For a while, I was walking 10km/day to help core strength for my back, and the Asics Kayano would last about 4 months like that (over 1200km) .

The latest Gel-Kayano is the 25th gen. You can usually find discount on previous models. Asics shoes are conservative and they don't change much between annual iterations, so I consider Kayano 23 or Kayano 24 almost as good.

Check out some past deals of Gel-Kayano 24 to see how much discount you might be able to get.

Go to specialist shop, ideally one that also has a podiatrist in it. Alternatively, see a good podiatrist first as orthotics might help.
Kayanos are good runners but do not correct gait due to their construction - they are neutral runners which are cushioned to absorb the shocks from running (not cushioned as in providing softness standing).
What you essentially need is a good, supportive, and cushioned insole in a stable, lightweight shoe (and I am not talking about a running shoe here necessarily).

    • thanks will talk to my podiatrist.

      • Good. Foot health is very important as a lot of nerve endings exist in the foot and wrong gait and posture can affect your whole body health, most notably cause severe back pain, hip problems, and other "fun" issues.
Seeing your podiatrist will be worth it. Depending on where you are in NSW, google Comfort and Fit near you - they sell specialist shoes in different width (as that is also important).
They will have brands like Finn Comfort (German shoe, comes with what is almost a natural orthotic in it), PW Minor, Propet, and sometimes even Drew. If you have time, go into one of the shops and try some shoes on - if well fitted and you have the right insole in it you will feel the difference straight away.

  • couldn't help but read the title post as "shoes for flat earthers"

I have flat feet and love the Adidas Nizza range for their arch support. Has to be the men's models though as the women's are flat. I think Hype/platypus etc sell them if you want to go in and try them on. For reference https://m.size.co.uk/product/blue-adidas-originals-nizza-lo/…

I have flat feet and with my orthotics Brooks Beast were recommended. Well constructed and come in a few different colours. I’ve worn them a few times a week for he last 2.5 years and they’re still in great condition, though I’ve recently noticed the sole is peeling up in a couple of places on the side, still happy with it though.
The podiatrist suggested Brooks Addiction Walker, which I bought as a work and church shoe, but they stretched and don’t support well any more, and the lip of the sole at the front came unstuck fairly quickly (within 6 months), I’d suggest not to buy unless you want to replace them after a year or so and at $250ish is not my desire. Seems like they’re real leather on the outside which I think is the cause of most of my issues with black smart shoes, it stretches.
I used to wear Rockports with my orthotics and they’re a good shoe but don’t support well enough.

It used to be basketball boots were the way to go to get the ankle support but they’re not as popular now as they were in the 90s and much harder to find in my experience.
