QFP Credit Card for a Contractor

Dear all

I'm a permanent worker and enjoy all those Qantas frequent flyer point credit card deals that are published here.

My wife however just recently started her working career in Australia and is working as a contractor.

I've seen some messages in Internet that banks generally "don't like" contractors and it is much harder for them to be approved for credit cards.

I don't want to ruin my wife's credit history with applications that will be declined anyway

So my questions are (primarily I'm interested in those credit cards that give QFF points):
Is it true that banks have more stringent requirements for contractors generally ?
If yes, what are those minimal requirements for contractors?
Any tips how to improve chances for a contractor to be approved?

Thank you!

  • I am a contractor, I have been getting credit cards with QFF bonuses without any problems.

But the bank is going to ask you :

    1) How much you make.
    2) How long have you been with your employer.
    3) to give you 2 previous payslips.

Also your wife's credit score may come into it, check that first.

  • Does she have a contract for regular work? That's usually very helpful to show credit worthiness. Ad hoc work would be more difficult.

Also, I didn't think credit card approvals had the same level of scrutiny that home loans do. As long as the limit isn't too high.
