Samsung Phones and Its Problems

the note 9 has been released with an eye-watering, nut-squeezing price tag and endless boasting by samsung about specs and features and mockery of the iphone.

i currently have an iphone 8+. prior to this owned an s9+, s7, s7 edge, s6, note 4 and all iphone iterations.

i’ve found every samsung flagship to have some unforgivable problem: the s9 having dropped call issues - has this been fixed?, the s7 having gps and compass issues, the s6 having connectivity issues with fitbits as examples. every flagship had slow major OS updates and slowdowns after months of use.

these issues are just a few examples of what essentially make using the phones annoying from day and day and made me regret my purchase, looking to change the phone after 2-3 months of use. shows a lack of refinement from samsung.

will note 9 suffer the same fate?

will note 9 suffer the same fate?

According to your experience - Yes

Don't waste your money on the brand new flagship .
    Why ?
So you can tell others "I have the new *** phone" ?
Unless you have money to burn (or some need, maybe you need the high end flagship for work, or to play the latest 3d games on it, idk) then it is a complete waste of $$ to spend > $1,000 on a phone, which will be used for things that a <$400 phone could do almost as well.
Also, if you have a phone that has been out for a while, then many of those early bugs/glitches will have been fixed/patched/updated etc.
Also, the iphones have similarly had problems. 1 noteable and embarrassing flaw was the iphone 4 could do everything EXCEPT make phone calls, as had reception issues when holding it for a call lol

Paying >$1500 for an android smartphone when many similar spec androids may be priced at >$400 is just crazy.

      • As the prices of phones by major manufacturers increase, I suspect most of these cheaper manufacturers will increase their prices too.

      • apple did well at market segmentation for creating 'premium' justifiable by isheep

google could have stop android being open source, making android exclusive for their 'premium' pixel phones only

    • Agree 100%
I used to chase the latest and greatest, right now I am perfectly happy on my 3 year old S7 and will probably go another 2 or 3 years on it. I will never buy another new-release flagship and when it does come time to upgrade I'll be looking for a refurbished older model (though a flagship of its day).

There's a reason flagship phones are sold at a premium and it can't really be compared to a $400 phone. The camera quality alone is a major reason for peoples purchases.

but is it a $600+ better camera?

        • Well if you want to record in 4K you're not going to do it right in a sub-par phone.

I mean really, your argument can apply to anything… why buy a new car if you can buy a 1995 Hyundai Excel when they basically do the same thing right?

        That was true years ago.

I had the same mentality few months back when i was thinking to upgrade my S7 to S9+ for the camera. However, upon seeing some youtube review videos, and had a play with actual s9+ in store, I can't really convinced myself spending close to 1.2k on that phone. Yes the camera is slightly better under low light condition, but that 3% improvement doesn't justify the price.

I am sure every phone has issues. I used to have an iPhone 4S. I think in the 2 years that I owned it, I have gone back to the Apple store maybe 4 times due to hardware issues. After that, I have gone Android phones, mainly because of cost and I am OS-agnostic. Among the Android phone manufacturers, I think Samsung probably has the easiest warranty claim process if you live in Brisbane since they have Samsung kiosks scattered around Brisbane. When I had issues, they just fix it without giving me much hassle, very much like an Apple store, except I don't need to make an appointment to see a "consultant".

So my point is, you could still run into phone issues no matter which brand you buy. The best thing to do is what others have mentioned, maybe save your money and buy a refurb. At least you can find out whether there are any known issues with the phone before you buy it.

Ask yourself, why do you need the latest and greatest phone every time?

In my experience, it's a fools errand. Theres possibly only 2 reasons I can think of to justifiably beat the game — Firstly; you use some particular feature in some pro or am.pro capacity ie. maybe you really like photography and want the latest tech. this is almost the only real area where it improves dramatically every gen. Sure CPU, but what are you really doing on your smart phone? you can play fortnite? amazing if you are 12…

Secondly; you've found a way to take advantage the stupidity of the market, in terms of following an almost lease type model where you get the latest and look after it and resell it for next to no or little loss before the next gen comes out — this is not really as possible with samsung as it is apple as they don't have the same ridiculous iSheep following of the hardware.

For me, i dont think either of those reasons are bad, it just gets tiring and goes against the point of the whole android model. Cheapass throwaway xiaomi phones for the win.
