SportsDirect Shipping Fee Increased to £5

Just noticed while trying to order something that Sportsdirect has upped their delivery fee from £0.99 to £5. Which would kill many deals we used to have.

  • Many VPN plans have problems only find out after paying the money. How do we know this one is not?

Yeah, it sucks. Worse still, if you go over the base shipping weight (not sure what that is but with a shirt + jacket it took me over) the shipping charges go crazy. In my test (shirt + jacket) shipping was £14 - so in fact it would have been cheaper for me to place two orders with £5 shipping each than a single order. Doesn't make sense.

I hope they change shipping to something reasonable otherwise I don't think we'll see another SportsDirect deal on OzBargain :(

I honestly had no clue who they did 1 quid shipping. My item was courier delivered. I mean I can't even courier a letter to next door for that price. Wait and see and hopefully they mix multi-item orders

  • Checked out the Aus & UK sites both want £5 shipping. Lucky I ordered a total of 7 items last week for £0.99 shipping. Won't be buying any more if they keep up the £5 shipping. They will loose a lot of trade.

  • I thought those UK sites can charge cheap postage because unlike Amazon UK, they don't reduce the price by 20% VAT when they sell to outside EU, i.e. the overseas postage is partially covered by the 20% VAT they would otherwise have to collect, if the shopper is from UK/EU.

  • I was testing the shipping cost changes by reducing the items from my cart. I found that even there are only two shorts and a compression tights, it is still charging me £12.00 for shipping. I am sure they dont weight 2kg and the total value of the items are only £21.00. This is the best way to make all Aust customers to look elsewhere. SportsDirect no more for me!!!

    • Yeah I have noticed since they increased shipping cost, I am getting more emails from them. Trying desperately

      • Same, I will still order every now and then if it is £5 for good deals. But for the items I have in my cart with this shipping rate, thanks but no thanks…

  • Must admit I was a fan of the minimal shipping but now that it's been upped it does kill my interest in buying from them

  • Have bought quite a bit from these guys in the past. Unfortunately that ends now.
Just noticed a special for 4 Pierre Cardin t-shirts for AU$24. Added to my cart, and got slugged with AU$24 shipping.

I know AU$2 shipping was probably making a loss, but they've gone the other way and it's going to cost them sales. Maybe having to deal with the Jerry Harvey GST calculations made shipping to Australia not worth their time?

  • I've noticed for about a year now that their site had many visual and structural changes happen, and that the dev team (likely just a cheap agency or outsourced team) never properly migrated the content and did a HORRIBLE job redirecting hundreds of URLs. This screams cheap labour.

I tried to purchase recently and every time they tried to get me on 25gbp for shipping. This, plus everyone's feedback above makes me think that they've had the same cheap labour try to integrate back-end shipping calulations by weight.. without understanding the huge work ahead with the 10's of thousands of attributes that they'll need to test and retest.. sort of like figuring it out as they go along.. SD should have just upped the flat shipping by a few coins and called it even. Probably lost out on a huge amount of profit with all the issues over the last 12 months+

  • too bad shipping cost is unreasonable now.
    wont be shopping there again.

Anyone have other alternatives with reasonable shipping cost?

  • Shipping is ridiculous now. Added 9 items of clothing for $92 and at checkout they want to charge another $42 for delivery! Looks like the good times have come to an end!

  • Merged from SportsDirect shipping is now $24, was below $5 2 months ago.

Is there some sort of code I am meant to be using? Went to buy a bunch of sandals for summer but it isn't worth it at all now.

    • I'm not sad about it after getting sent the wrong size of sneakers (right box).

their initial response was I ordered the wrong size….

      .

      • Did they accept the return in the end?

        • no - well 'sort of'.

          long story;
I ordered two pairs of shoes - different sizes (US9 and US8) taking advantage of low shipping.
package arrived - boxes showing correct sizes.
opened boxes - both pairs US9.
send email - lengthy explanation trying to be as clear as possible.
response - my mix up in ordering re US & UK sizing with 'attitude' in wording.
send follow up email with picture showing the sizing on the tongues and boxes to show mismatch.
follow up response - sorry to hear the think you have wrong size etc, send them back for evaluation.
I look up aus post - circa $30 with tracking (as they suggested).
third email to them - I quoted the $30 aus post and that it seems over the top for $35 shoes.
SD response - we'll get DHL to pick them up, wait for contact.
DHL contact me - do you have 'pick up number' (which I didn't). DHL said they will get in contact with SD as they should have given me the detail.
trail goes cold and by this stage it had been a week and a half of back and forth.
So I thought this was way too hard for something I can use later (luckily).
We also ordered some of the correct size from runningwarehouse and decided that SD could go and jump.

I simply lost faith that my claim would be successful and that we would actually get the desired outcome. The responses from the staff member at SD were of the 'customer is wrong' persuasion from the get go.

          rant over….

    • No code, they just stopped it.

    • On the weekend I thought it was 5 pounds.

    • Wow, when I first ordered, the shipping was a flat $3 and I ordered heaps. 2 weeks ago I tried to order 1 jacket and shipping was $10. Maybe they lost too much money with their international postage.

    • Depend on the number of items. You can buy about 5-8 items with shipping at $9 and then when you add one more it jumps to $24

      • I tried adding a few more and the delivery kept going up by 10 per each item - including just for a pair of undies.

  • +1

So basically they ruled out all international buyers I guess.

Until they put more thoughts into postage, I doubt any Aussies will be buying from them.
Or maybe Aussies not spending enough on SD that don't don't give a ratsass about it

    • I wonder if they noticed that 90% of their Australian orders only ordered during discounted periods. Ozbargainers are not a great customer base.

  • Holy crap.
I used to love this place. Ordered from them semi-regularly.
Their specials were often fantastic for deals.
I got a few things on special, a jacket and a pair of shoes. Put them in the cart - went to check-out.
THEY WANT TO CHARGE TWENTY ONE POUNDS FOR DELIVERY! That's forty dollars! For a jacket and a pair of shoes!
That has completely ruined it. If this doesn't change it is simply unaffordable to consider them now.
