Price Match/Beat with Flights

I'm looking at flights and the cheapest is via BestJet and reviews with them didn't seem that great. What's your experience with them? Do they let you select seats?
I wanted to price match with Expedia, but called up and they said they don't do that.
Flight Center is out of the question, so what about Webjet and STA Travel?

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Why is flight centre out of the question? They've been the easiest for me to price match at.

    • I heard they charge you hidden fees here and there. And slow response time.

        I haven't really experienced that, the only extra fees they charged were the fees that the other provider charged also (processing fees). So the price would still be the same as if you were buying from the other merchant.

        I've also had a great customer service experience from them, much better than any random online company..

        If you don't want to use them then that's all good, I just think they're so much easier to price match at, and if you do it in-store you have an actually person you know to rely on, not some random call centre worker.

        • Oh I see, thank you for this advice. I will check this out myself.

          @mysticturtle:

          I find it's easier and quicker to do the price match and booking over the phone or by email, with your local Flight Centre store of course.

          You can end up wasting a lot of time going in-store and prices may have changed by then.

          The sales reps are under a fair bit of pressure to upsell so they might try a few tricks like adding on travel insurance. Just make sure there are no extra charges on the final invoice.

      • They wont fast, you just need to email screen shot and they will let you know in couple of hours.

        If you are in store then you will need to wait them to communicate with HO.

        They may try to add hidden fee but you need stay firm for price beat with $1.

        • I called FC today and she gave me a $49 booking free but then I said can you bring that down and she gave me a price of $29 booking free per person. She was basically saying that it's her service/booking fee and to use their 24/7 support as well as compensation if we find a cheaper price.

          Should I argue this or is this normal.

          @mysticturtle:

          No that isn't normal, that sounds like one of the plays they to make to catch out unsuspecting people. I'd definitely argue that.

          They're supposed to beat the competitors price by $1 including the applicable processing (card) fees.

          @mysticturtle:

          They definitely shouldn't be charging a booking fee for price match.

          It sounds like they're trying to upsell you The Captain's Package or something similar and calling it a booking fee.

          You just have to be firm and say you don't want it. They tried something similar with me, automatically adding travel insurance to the initial invoice when I didn't request it.

          Here's the link for Flight Centre Lowest Airfare Guarantee. Ask them to point out where it mentions a booking fee.

          The final price is online price - $1.

    Check with the airline directly as some offer there own price match service. We recently got Cathay Pacific to match the price from skidoo.com.au for flights to Hong Kong.Flight centre would also price match it but I prefer to book with the airline directly.

  • FlightCentre will beat by $1. Yes they will try to add the $49 Captains Package per person. I was told by my local FlightCentre that she had to add the $49 fee per person if I wanted to price beat, I argued that adding the captains package was not beating the price ( I was booking 5pax, so an extra almost $250). She told me it was “company policy”.
    I walked out and rang FlightCentre and asked if it was “company policy” to add the package to a price beat quote. Reluctantly she said it was not policy but encouraged to add. So the agent on the phone did the price beat without the extra fee, also because bestjet do not charge a credit card fee I did not have to pay extra to pay by credit card.
    I thought it was a very sneaky and deceptive practice by FlightCentre. In the end I still booked through them only cause I saved over $1000 by booking the 5 airline tickets through them rather than from the airline itself.
