Telstra Mobile - Have to Ring Twice to Get Thru

Okay, having issues with my dad's mobile service. My dad and I am on the same deal and bill. We have the same phone except his is a white iPhone 8plus and mine in a gold iPhone 8 plus and the only other difference in our telephone numbers and we live in the same house.

Now the problem is that when you call my dad you have to call him twice, the first time it goes directly to his voice mailbox, which then tell you that this number is not valid, you call again 5 sec later and it rings his phone and if he doesn't answer it goes to voice mailbox and still doesn't register his number but he can pick it up and speak to whomever has called him. I am not having any issues with my phone with people tring to call me.

We have called Telstra and they said they would look in on it but its not high on their priority list (I assume not a lot of people have this issue).

Has anyone had the same issue and if so have you fixed it and if so what did you do.

My dad has missed out on a few important call like a friend wife had passed away and my dad didn't know and missed the funeral and being there for his friends for support like he was their for my dad when my mum passed away.

Thanks

  • Does it happen with the same sim in another phone?

If not, Apple Store for repair?

Is the iPhone set to Do Not Disturb?

(If someone calls you twice within three minutes, the second call isn't silenced)

    • Yes this is the correct solution.

    • I am pretty sure it is not on but I will double check, thank you for that suggestion.

    • Hi, I have checked the phone and yes it was on Do Not Disturb.
Thank you so much for your help in this, it has been a pain for the family because no one knew what was wrong.

      • Good to hear that :)

  • Call telstra, inform them you consider this a direct violation of the contract to supply a working service and if they cant fix it promptly you will consider the contract void and all oweing balances waived.

Should atleast get you someone to look at it… Had to do it for my internet…

By all accounts the call gets through, so the problem isn't on Telstra's end. I'm guessing PEBKAC.

      • thank you so much for your constructive suggestion

I miss the days of working in a phone shop, with customers ranting and raving about why their iPhone can't receive any phone calls, and how they're going to speak to the Ombudsman, etc, and flaring up whenever I suggested "Do Not Disturb" was on…….only to hand it over and see that God damned crescent moon in the status bar. Conversely, you'd meet plenty of people with genuine issues, who had tried troubleshooting prior to coming in, stating that they're worried they might have done something wrong when, in fact, it was on the business' end.

The worst kind of people are the people who are so dumb that they do not realise they're dumb (not directed at the OP; just an observation). What's worse is that they're so dumb that they don't understand what you're saying, so think that you're talking nonsense (and therefore the dumb one). Sprinkle in a bit of a short fuse into the mix and it's very entertaining.
