Problems with 2 Step after Porting from Optus to Kogan (Vodafone)

Hi all,

I recently ported my sim over from Optus to Vodafone while keeping the same phone number and I am having problems with receiving 2 step verification codes. There is not much I can say but whenever I try to re activate 2 step (for my Sony, Google acc etc.), I am not receiving the codes on my phone. It worked fine while I was on Optus.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so how did you fix it?

Thanks

Edit - I’ve tried resetting my network settings and enabling SMS. No luck

  • have you spoken to Kogan… that would be my first stop

    • Yes - to answer Fancy's questions, spoken to Kogan, they did not understand what 2FA was, and then I explained SMS messages.

They advised to reset network settings and enabling SMS

  • Can you recieve SMS as normal apart from 2FA codes?

  • +1
    1. try sim in another phone and see if you receive 2FA
    2. try different sim in your phone and see if you receive 2FA
  • I had this issue as well went trying to receive 2FA from Apple on Vodafone.

I had to turn on Premium TXT and it fixed the issue. Check there first.

How do you turn that request on, is there a code you can enter on the phone?

      Found this link:

      Fancy try this * # 5005 * 7672 #

Check if it is the correct number for SMS messaging - which should be +61415011501

      If not then set it here * * 5005 * 7672 * +61415011501 #

      • Just reading the Kogan Website. That's where they catch you out.

Its turned off by Default and you need to pay for the "PREMIER ACCESS BOLT-ON" $14.90 for it.

Even when I was on Vodafone they couldn't "fix" the Apple 2FA SMS without Enabling Premium TXT and they said if it works with that on, then leave it on going forward.

So F4ncy2 is in a tough spot if they cannot enable it for free.

        • I was on Kogan and received 2FA sms fine, I didn’t need to add the premium bolt on, what I don’t understand is your receiving text messages, why the premium bolt on?

  • I have just switched from Kogan to Telstra and have the exact same issue. Used to work fine on Kogan. Spent two hours on chat with Telstra, reset network settings three times, wiped iPhone and set up as new, tried SIM in an S8 (fresh install) and brand new S9+ and still can't receive them (even Telstra could not message me). The SMSC is correct for Telstra.

  • Seems there are still issues, I am having issues the other way around from Kogan to Telstra and not sure if this is related to porting.

I am fairly certain I have narrowed it down to how protection is enabled on mobile services here are the 2 issues listed below I have found. Any resolutions would be helpful!!!

Porting from Optus to Kogan - if total access 18+ (located here http://msc.optuszoo.com.au/ta18plus) was enabled, this could have an effect on receiving SMS messages from premium services

Porting from Kogan to Telstra - Telstra Mobile Protect (located here https://smartcontrols.telstra.com/ ) cannot be enabled after porting from Kogan to Telstra. Error is "Sorry there was an error adding Mobile Protect to your service. Try again or get in touch if you need some help."
