Banggood Now Charges GST on Purchases Delivered to Australia

Items delivered to Australia – Goods and Services Tax (GST)

GST applies to goods imported by consumers into Australia.

Orders up to AU $1,000
From 1 July 2018, if you're buying an item located outside Australia and you select a shipping address in Australia, Banggood will add GST to your total at checkout. The order value (item price + shipping costs) goes directly to the seller as usual, and Banggood remits the GST portion to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Please visit the ATO website for more information about the introduction of GST on low value imported goods.

Orders over AU $1,000
If you're buying from overseas and your order is valued at over AU $1,000, the GST is generally collected at the Australian border. You may need to pay it as part of clearing your parcel through customs.

Comment made by the Banggood Rep on the 24th July 2018:

the gst was unpopular in 1998 and here we're 20 years later. a changing in government won't change the laws.

  • Just tried and nothing is having GST added yet. Perhaps it might be a few more months?

On an unrelated note, BG are opening their NZ warehouse soon.

      • I'm not getting it on AU warehouse items. Perhaps it's already in their final price?

        • It only on items from their CN/HK warehouse.

          item located outside Australia

        • @RichardL: That would do it. The number of Chinese stores not charging GST is getting low.

        • @Clear: Agreed. Banggood was one of the last chinese site that didn't charge GST (they absorbed the cost) that I was aware of.

        • @RichardL: LITB is one of them but their rep left the company some time ago so they're practically silent.

          @Clear:
I wonder how many actually pay the ATO though. Maybe three of them?

        • @Drew22: The big ones like AliExpress and Joybuy would definitely pay.

  • wow… i just ordered from them the other day and had no GST.

Was gonna order again but I guess I'll wait and see.
