Speeding offense for P2 Driver

Just got pulled over and fined for 10km/h over speed limit. My registered speed was 21km/h but I got downgraded. This is my second offense for speeding and as far as I knew it is loss of license as it is stated by RMS a minimum of 4 points for speeding fines on your P2 license.

Speaking to the officer he warned me that I now have 1 demerit point left as my other fine was only 3 and so was this fine. I didn't say anything about this to him but I'm curious as to what will happen. Either the officers information is false or I keep my licence. Personally I'm happy to accept the loss of license as I was caught doing the wrong thing but was wondering if someone on here might have some more experience than myself in this category. I don't know what to believe at this point :(

  • Some states you can view online at transport.gov

    • Yes but the officer has said I have lost 3 points for each for my 2 offenses. Online it says it is a minimum of 4 points for each speeding offense. So in the officers situation I still have 1 point left whereas according to rms I will lose my licence.

      • Ah, sorry, I misread the first paragraph. I always thought that demerit points were demerit points, except on public holidays. But obviously not for L/P1/P2.

In that case, won't it just be a 3 month suspension? Or perhaps that's what you mean.

        • Yes that's what I expected but the officer has said otherwise just confused.

now you can speed walk : )

I always wanted to get fit :)

  • If the officer told you that it was 3 demerits for each offence then he's likely both found your history (showing 3 points) as well as set your new fine (from his word) at 3 points.

Unsure? Just check your licence online.

    • Yep I've just done this and I'm clear. Seems the minimum of 4 demerit points for a speeding fine only applies to L and P1 drivers fortunately.

      • That's strange if it's not written anywhere.

    Maybe you should stop speeding?

Probably should. I'm not complaining was just confused and wondering if anyone had any useful answers. Obviously you don't.

      • Clearly more useful than your driving history.

      • It's an answer that will save you paying more $$ on fines and going without your licence in the future

  • Being P2 you only accrue the points, which means you will be over and serve a suspension.

When can you go for your full licence? answer this asap.

PS: I have seen numerous times the magistrate either let them off the suspension all together or serve 2 weeks instead of 3 months due to circumstances etc.

    • I checked my demerits and have 1 left. Full licence isn't until November next year so I have to be on my best behaviour :D

      • hey mate, sorry to reply on this old thread.. i saw one of your comments that you know how to unlock the E3373H device… i could not message you directly.. could you send me a message to discuss? thanks!

  • Contest it, and you pay court fees of $80 or so on top of the fine if unsuccessful.

Even though a magistrate can impose a maximum penalty of $2k or so. I have never seen this done for minor offences.
