Brand new Corolla (new shape)? All the safety features, but no Android Auto/Car play

    • i think it starts from 26k…i just think it might be more economical to buy new used car??

Depends, there is a strong resale on something like a Toyota, plus a considerable upgrade over the 2016s you've been looking at. New engine & gearbox, all the safety features

I like the brand new 2019 Corolla, they've added a few crucial new features, bumped up the response and generally looks like a decent buy, as opposed to just being the safe choice.

It is just a bit over OP's budget tho, unfortunately you're not gonna be able to get it as a used car anytime soon.

You can get a brand new jap car for $25k…?

    • i want something better than a yaris. new Corolla is about 26k 27k i think.
also, i think the question is , is it more economical to buy a new car, or a new used one/demo?

      • A used car
for the same price as brand new is the best

        • Wut?

Solution: Teach non-manual driver to drive manual. Save $25k

    • rather spend 25k :)

My partner CAN drive manual but still won't drive my car, so I know what you mean…

a new i30 Activ automatic with safety pack.

  • Civic 2018 demo or 2017

    • thanks. never thought of Honda… cuz it's not on the top list of Carsales

For $25k I would get a brand new car instead.

    Get a new corolla

    • 19 corolla does look cool

    Fiat 500c

    • ummmm. thanks but honestly didn't expect someone would suggest this one.

    • +2

I assume OP also wants to drive the car from time to time.

Ford Mondeo. Nice and roomy, all the features, great for road trips, decent fuel economy, you still get the hatch. 12 month 15,000km service intervals as opposed to Subaru/Toyota. 1~2 year old base spec starts around $17k, $25k will get you into a low km higher spec. Depreciation will be very mellow if buying a couple years old at a good price and keeping for 4~6. Typically first & second year depreciation is much larger for bigger cars so when you are buying at this point you are getting a lot more car for your money.

    • thank you for all the info, 15k km service intervals is a big plus

  • Kia Cerato? Stick with Jap or Korean.

    • cerato looks good. i wonder how's their after sale services? heard some complaints on Hyundai

    • The MY19 Cerato looks like good value at $20k for the S manual.

I’m really happy with our Mazda 3s, you can get a brand new Maxx for well under 25k even a SP25 if you bargain hard

  • I would hold out a few more months and buy an end of model new 2018 clearout Toyota Corolla. Come Christmas you have great bargaining power. By then you could probably afford the 2019 too! Go do some tempting now and see what kind of a trade in they will do … then sit back and watch the fun!

    • great tips on the timing to buy. really appreciate it.

      • +1

I would do a thorough comparison between the 2018 and the 2019 before taking on a clearout model though. Like a couple of us said above, the 2019 is a much better buy, so unless the savings are really significant the advice is to cough up.

By 2018 and 2019 you're referring to old shape vs new shape or just new shape?

There's not many old shape Corollas floating around so I wouldn't even both tbh, and new model shits all over it

    • +1

I would not buy an old model corolla unless its 5-6k lower than a comparable 2019 model

      • Yes agree; was thinking of the 2018 Toyota model (new) and yes, would expect quite a decent discount for doing so.
Saved about $7,000 (and several extras added in … did not do trade in though as son took my old vehicle) on a Holden on a new but end of year model clearout a few years back. Depends on whether you really mind the older model. Would think that better option than a used vehicle, and buyer should have the bargaining power, especially if shopping around between dealers.
